I recently stumbled upon a tutorial that teaches how to extract a unit texture from the SC2 Asset MPQ File, modify it in Photoshop, and then reinsert the modified texture back into the MPQ File. (Link to Tutorial) Thus far I've been successful with it and have come up with some decent designs (see examples in the attached pictures.) However the problem is that in order for it to work I need to replace the original "diffuse" texture file with my modified one. Meaning that I am unable to have various modified textures of the same unit. For example I modified the High Templar skin, granted it looks pretty cool in my opinion but now I can't have normal High Templars as well without reverting it back to the original diffuse texture file. I don't know what to do in the data editor because the High Templar model is packaged into one .M3 file. I hope what I'm trying to say makes sense, I'm trying to be as clear as possible. My goal is to be able to choose what texture file a custom unit will use. I'd like the original High Templar to be unchanged, and my custom High Templar to have the modified skin. Can anyone help me out with this? Thanks in advance.
The pictures ended being quite big and didn't work in the forum so if you wish feel free to click on the links and you can see them at image shack.
Thank you for your reply. I'm glad you understand what I'm trying to accomplish. I followed the thread you linked closely. However I do not own/have any 3DS Max Software. I mean sure, I could probably install a trial, but is there no other way to do it?
I see, well did you end up finishing your project? Did it work out the way you wanted it to? I have no problem trying on 3DS Max but it looks so ridiculously complex. I can barely manage the SC2 Editor as it is haha. So that's why I was trying to avoid any convoluted circumstances.
Hey thanks man! However I don't really need any textures applied. I just wanted to see if there was a way to have multiple textures based on the same model. However I have no set project in mind. I've just been messing around and familiarizing myself with the editor. A week ago I didn't know anything haha.

Master Templar
Skin Modification
I used to have the same problem but I used 3Ds Max to make a new model.
This is the forum I used to get help.

Using 3ds Max is the only way I have found that works.

Well, the texture worked out fine but only on a certain portion of the firebat. The arms didn't receive any texture whatsoever.
Although, when viewing the model in 3Ds Max the model looked perfect with all the textures where they should be.
In short...no
If you want I could try putting the texture on the unit for you.
