Looking for a bit of help here, I'm wanting to have an orbital strike attack (very similar to Ion Cannon in C&C) But I'm not sure how I would got a beam to come straight down to where I'm targetting. The blast is simple enough (At least in theory) but I'm stumped as to how to get the initial beam to come down, instead of from a unit or building. Anyone any ideas, or links?
I'd make it so a unit uses ability with infinite range, so he can cast it wherever he wants w/o moving. it will create a search area effect at the target point.

I say just rip off the painful parts of a nuke and give it the Planetcracker visuals presuming you dont just make a ranged version of the whole planetcracker ability.
In other words create dummy flying unit above target which does the purifiers planet cracker.

Used a satellite unit to show on hero pane when available and to make the bean emission easy.

Thats almost exactly what i did. A satellite unit above the target does the planet cracker on command.
There are probably less messy ways of doing it but that way is pretty simple.
