So I have created several SOAtachment models on a unit with SOoffsets. Is there a way to create a model attachment on a SOAttachment?
In other words this is what I have:
Unit
->Actor (SO Model Attachment)
- -> SOLocalOffSet
I want to create a SO Model Attachment on the actor that I create that is attached to the unit. Is this possible? I used this event to link them:
ActorCreation.<my actor>
Create
Rather than the UnitBirth Msg Type.
If anymore information is needed, feel free to ask.
If it is what I am thinking it is easily possible you just need to set the Hosting - Host - Subject of that attachment as that of the previous attachment. Here is a map where I used something like that.
I attached one model onto another model which was attached to the central unit. So you want to attach a model onto the missile unit launched by the tentacle? You cannot attach anything to the tentacle streamer as it lacks any attachment points but you can retexture it.
On a side not you know there is a fourth sort of tentacle. The unused Roach Tentacle model.
Tentacles have only two above plane attachment points. The weapon which is linked to the missile unit used for launching the tentacle and the hardpoint which is used for the return. Other than that there is nothing you can attach stuff onto. Unless you perfect the Attachment Set Rotation From event or alter the tentacle with 3d max.
The model I am using is the leviathan tentacle, which does in fact have several attachment points. So I am trying to attach a model to a model. I'll take another look at what you did.
If you actually look at what moves when the tentacle launches you are very limited with your options. In this thread I defined several fields associated with tentacle movement
If you look at how the tentacles move you find the weapon attachment point is linked to the supporter missile unit and that is moved to the target while all other points stay near stationary (hardpoint moves a little) so the only thing that moves is the streamer which lacks points to attach a model.
I am not using the attachment to do damage or anything of the sort. It is all for looks. I still have yet to look at your map again. I will get back to you with my updated results.
Yes, that is the plan. Attaching a model. I looked at your map again, and i'm having a hard time understanding how the 1st model you have is linked to the 2nd. The way it looks is that you based it off the primary unit and just used two offsets.
The two offsets are to keep the models apart the one is a straight awat from the host model while the other is at 90 degrees. If both were attached to the host model directly they would form a right angled triangle with the host model in the corner. The only two fields you need to look at are the Hosting - Host - Subject and the events. Both attachments are created on the birth of the unit and destroyed with the unit death. The second sattelite is hosted on the first while the first is hosted on the unit.

It looks very similar to what I am aiming for, but it seems you attached both models to the central unit. I am looking to attach a model to a model.
Looking at the attachment, I want to create a model on the "tentacle".

So you are after attaching something to the end of the tentacle?

The Subject field is what I needed. Thanks.
