For me, the flames of the Firebat's attack sometimes do not show up. Most of the time, its the first few shots of the unit; like it will show no flames for like 3-5 attacks and then it shows up for every attack, but another firebat needs 3-5 shots again.
Is this a specific problem for me (maybe related to my graphics settings) or did you experience similar stuff yourself? I am talking about the unmodified firebat when playing the campaign as well as a custom copy of it, modified to be a hero unit. When playing the campaign or my custom map I have the same issue.
Me to. But only the first shot. And i also think i've seen it on other units than firebats. Im 100% sure it's the same on marines. But i don't know if it's on other units to.
What I have noticed is mostly with the firebat but also on a few other units is if the firebat is attacking from it’s max range he will hold his arms up and play his attack animation but no flames show up until the target moves closer to the firebat. So when fighting something like zerglings its not a problem the zerglings just move in on the firebat and everything works near perfectly but it the firebat is attacking a unit that out ranges him say a hydralisk then the firebat stands there playing his attack animation but does zero damage while the hydralisk tears the stupid firebat apart. Sure all I have to do is take one step closer with the firebat and now the hydralisk is toast but thats not good enough it should work right. an easy way to see what I mean is make a map with a firebat and a pygalisk cocoon then have the firebat stand out of range of the cocoon then use attack/move on the cocoon.
Did you change anything under firebat attack actor? Such as the firebat launch art or the firebat impact art? I am pretty sure that the firebat defaults with a launch art but try taking it off anyways. I made a custom firebat from scratch with its own attack actor and it worked. I did not fill anything in for the two arts. If I did, it would not fire. But make sure that under Launch Assets+ > Art has the model Firebat Attack Flame. If your sound is not working then look for Impact Map+ > 1st Row > Sound and put in Firebat_Attack Impact. I hope this helps.
The other thing that I am wondering is if you have made a copy of the firebat attack. So the original one works but it also trys to launch the one that doesnt work.
Okay, so basically what you're saying is the model for the attack isn't showing up? Well thats because this model comes with the flag "Ignorable". It basically says "it's not direly important that it shows up the first time around, so ignore it until it loads."
How is this fixed? Go into the model section of the data editor, find the Firebat Attack Flame. Under flags you'll find a flag called "Ignorable" check-marked. Simply remove the check-mark and your firebat attack -should- show up 100% of the time.

Any idea what causes this and how to fix it?
have the same problem but only 0-2 times
but i ignore it :)
I have the same problem, and the only real fix I had was to use a different model.

You could try loading the model somewhere outside the map and instantly destroying it at the start of the map.

Where you trying to make a critical hit appear as a different colour of flame or something like that?
Well, my post is about an unmodified firebat, used in the campaign. I did not really do anything with it.
im my map, i have a hero called "nitro" aka firebat, and i have the same issue.
I always thought it was a preloading issue though. After like 2 shots its all fine. So whatever.
im glad you guys also have this issue, i was getting worried and thinking the map might be showing signs of corruption lol.

currently i just use the default fire bat (well the hells' angle model)..
could that be it? anybody using the hells angle firebat instead of the standard firebat experiencing this?
So you just duplicated the unit? Did you check off all boxes? Or can you remember what you did.
