I am thinking of making a mod that enables campaign units as well as making some units for non-Terrans. I understand dependencies I think, but I do not want the stuff on just one map. I read a mod works on all maps but how do I load one up? Do I just place it in the Mods folder? If so, will I get banned or something if I forget its in there when I play a ranked game?
I wanted to test this Starcraft+ mod I found, but I don't know how to get it working.
Mods i dont think are fully fleshed out yet..... from the sounds of it your new to SC2 if you think you would even be able to use a mod on a ranked match.....
I suggest making some maps just to learn a little about the editor and then possibly playing a bit of the customs currently available.

No no man, I understand about ranked games, my question was more if I play a vanilla ranked game, will having a mod file in the "Mods" folder cause an issue. With other games I made maps for like Crysis, if I left something in the wrong place you could get flagged for hacking. I am new to SCII, but not to modding games :)
So . . how do I make a mod work - turn it on, make it work on all the main maps (I thought I read that was the point of mods, not to have to place everythin in new map files), and so on.
Mods are loaded into maps, basically they are DATA ONLY modifications that you can save and import into any map you want.
So you make a new MOD in the Galaxy Editor.
Save it.
Open a new MAP and import the Dependency ( Your MOD )
And the map will have all the data available from the mod.
A mod in SC2 is different to mods in other games. In other games it would directly affect melee maps and could be loaded directly. In SC2 they are just data storages. ie. if you make an RPG and add a new 'chapter' rather than having to remake everything, you can put the stuff into a mod and then use them in that other map. Mods cannot be loaded apart from in maps that specify the mod to be loaded. eg. your map.
To use a mod (SC+ is mine btw, I hope you like it), open any regular map, go to the dependencies (file -> Dependencies), and add the mod as a dependency.
Very cool mod! I have not played enough to know what nerfs are correct, but it looks very extensive and was fun to see the campaign stuff in action again! Right now I am working on just getting some new Terran stuff in, the one I am testing has the robot panthers and perdition turrets, medics, firebats, but no nerfs (yet lol)
Sorry for the noob question lol

How do you create a mod? I have edited a good amount of data in a map, and I want to convert that map into a mod.
My main goal is to use data from one map in another map.
Any ideas?
