It's happening to my map! How can I fix it? (I know it has something to do with localization, but please explain it to me as if I don't know anything about it [which I don't])
If your map uses localized strings for only one language, it will automatically use that for all languages. If you added multiple languages, it will only display each string to its respective language, everything else shows as Param/Value.
This usually happens, if 2 people using different editor language versions edit the same map.
To fix this, follow these steps:
Open your map in the Galaxy Editor
Save it as a component list (File -> Save As -> Data Type: Component List)
Close the Galaxy editor
Go to the folder containing your component list
You will see multiple folders containing localized strings. They are named according to the language, for example enGB.SC2Data for european english or enUS.SC2Data for american english
Merge all text files contained in those folders (there are multiple files, for example GameStrings.txt or TriggerStrings.txt). If some files are present for multiple languages, copy&paste the content of one file to the other.
Decide for one language to keep (you probably might want to use your own editor language version) and put all merged files into your desired language folder
Delete the other language folders completely
Open the ComponentList.SC2Components file with a text editor
Find all lines resembling the language (they look like this: <DataComponent Type="text" Locale="enGB">GameText</DataComponent> ) and delete all of those lines, except the one holding your desired language
Save everything and open the component list in your SC2 editor
Save it as a map file again (make sure you keep a backup!)
So what do I do for this situation where I do not have another language? My error starts out with Param/Value/
It only pops up in my scoreboard/killboard, but in the editor all is fine, from what I can see
I have saved my map as an sc2components list...
documents>sc2>MyMaps>Lunar Axis of Chaos.SC2Map
I have:
enUS.SC2Data
and Base.SC2Data
and a bunch of others.
My map is locked, but it is public you can see for yourself: Lunar Axis of Chaos
Please Help! :(
Localizer works for some maps, for mine it didn't. Also, localizer copys the text to all available languages, which unnecessarily increases map size by a huge amount.
Here's what you do. We've been doing this for our own map every day. Do not use the localizer. Like Kueken said, it may or may not work, and it always increases file size.
Open your map, save it as an sc2compenents file. This splits it up into a bunch of pieces. Close your map.
In a file browser, open the folder where you just saved your sc2components. It will have the same name as the map file.
There will be folders that are titled something like "regionName.sc2data". So, "enUS.sc2da" or "enGB.sc2data". If you only have 1 of these folders, just rename it to your local language. And ignore the next step
If there are 2 or more of these folders, you need to merge them. In each folder there will be up to 4 files containing text from your map. You need to go into the folders you DON'T want to keep (the ones that are not your local language). Open each file, copy it's contents, and paste it into the same file in your local language folder. By doing this, are moving the text from, say, the EU region to the US region. Do this with all the files, so all the text data is inside the 4 files in your local language folder.
Now open "ComponentsList.Sc2components" in a TEXT EDITOR. It should have at least one line that says something like " <DataComponent Type="text" Locale="enUS">GameText</DataComponent>". You need to have only 1 of those lines, which has your local language. So delete any lines with languages that are not local, and leave the local language. Save this file.
Now open ComponentsList.Sc2components in the galaxy editor. This will open everything like normal. Finally, save the map as a normal sc2map file.
oh ok thanks for info about map size. Can I just delete unneeded language stuff from components? Works with old maps right?
If you used the localizer before, you can indeed just delete all but 1 language files from the components list, since all these files will have the same content.
I really hope this helps other people out. there are a lot of posts about localization. perhaps blizz should get on making a translator that activates upon uploading ALL maps.. just to be sure..
I ended up just going back two days and making up for my lost work... This is not to be minimized. It sucked all to hell... How could I prevent this?? The guy in my team is the cause of this error (i believe) and he won't be able to help if this error can't be prevented...
as far as I know fixing localization errors is easy if you know what localization your partner uses and which one you use.
After getting the map back from your partner, you open it with a mpq editor/save it as a compenents list. then go to the localizations directory.
go into the folder with your partners localization, open the files there.
next go into the folder with your localization, open the files there and copy the data from your partners files into your files.
and there you go, you added his changes to your changes. now all you have to do is remove his locale from the map and he should also see the correct values until he starts editing again.

I got all the way to the last step, but when I tried to open it in the editor, it said:
Unable to load file (XML: mismatched tag): ComponentList.SC2Components
What did I do wrong?
The error message suggests, you have a syntax error in your component list. Post the text of your component list here, please.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="us-ascii"?> <Components> <Optimized/> </DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="info">DocumentInfo</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="mapi">MapInfo</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="trig">Triggers</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="terr">t3Terrain.xml</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="plob">Objects</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="gada">GameData</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="text" Locale="enUS">GameText</DataComponent> <DataComponent Type="regi">Regions</DataComponent> </Components>
Code- tags would be nice :D
Try this:
I removed: <Optimized/> </DataComponent> , probably your second or third line.
Sorry man xD
I'll try this and post my results. Thanks in advance.
IT WORKED!
THANKS SO MUCH KUEKEN! I WUV YOU as a friend

http://www.sc2mapster.com/assets/sc2-localizer/ I just used this and everything is working fine. Need to use it always when any text is modified in the editor though.
I tied and failed there.. sent you an pm. download>extract files>sc2 localizer>into option>set enUS>close window> choose map> click localize> ....
it says done but when I open the map it fails. . .problem is still there.

My localizer works.... maybe it's not the same localizer then...
