I don't have the time or disposition to create my own models, but it would be cool if someone made a Borg Cube from Star Trek which I could use in my map.
Or maybe someone already did or maybe I could pay you to do it? Not sure what the cost would be to do something like this or how big the undertaking is.
Convert these stl files to obj via Max ( import and export ), also export a sphere and cube for baking the textures.
Use the obj file as a hi-Poly model to generate the textures. Of course there is no texture, what you need to do is export them and use xNormal to generate the necessary maps for your texture
Thanks for the help. Winged archon actually made me one. It looks pretty good. When we get the details together I'll let him post it from my map so everyone can see.
yeah mine is a veeeery simple model, just a plain cube, 8 poly's 6 faces, nothing more. and I found the texture through google and in my humble opinion also how I remember then from the series.
I haven't yet made a normal map. do you happen to have some kind of automatic generator that can aid in this? to me it's manual labour :P
I don't know if you noticed, but mine is also a 12 poly (not 8 ), 6 sided cube.
The normal maps are usually created based on a hi-poly sculpt or model and baked out via some tool. That is why I used xNormal and the hi-poly mesh from the download to generate it. I also baked out several other textures such as bend normal, cavity map, ambient occlusion map, height map and join them together to get a nice diffuse map.
Here is a great tutorial on how that works.
In the DOTA2 Texture tutorial (link above) it explains ( a possible way ) to match these models together
For the color I got a ref picture from the borg, took the lightest color and the darkest color ( just not black) and rendered out some clouds in photoshop as a base of the texture.
Generating a normal map from a picture works too but it is just not the same, there is a plugin from nVidia in photoshop that does that.

Did you check this : borg cube free 3D Model ?

Looks cool.... It's a c4d file. Any converters out there to convert this to something Galaxy can recognize?
Did you like, even take a sec to google it ?

Yes...
How accurate do you want the model to be?
I may not be able to deliver you to greatest possible quality at lightning speed.
But I may be of ability to generate something like the Borg Cube. Greatest problem I would face is textures (most notably normals)
And I'd like to know, what should the cube be able to do? I mean, one could easily make it into a flying.. cube.

Maybe you didn't check for a long time, or maybe Google likes me better as a friend. :D

ell, considering I'm about mediocre level and that it was a meshup in just a day, I presume there's always potential for itto be better.
However OnlyLeviathan let me know it helped him out pretty good so.
As far as goes what the Cube turned out to be:

Hmm, it still worked this morning. I replaced it with the new image I used for the updated one.

I can see the picture, it is looking nice, I did one myself, but like 5 minutes of work, screenshot taken from SC2 Cutscene editor
Has diffuse, normal, specular and emissive map
I used the above mentioned 3D Model as a hi poly model to bake these textures.
