Hey guys! I'm fairly new to mapster and modeling but I thought I'd throw this up. Just something I've been working on in my spare time. Its the first unit for my fantasy world. Presenting the Dune Warrior (name subject to change). Project is centered around a desert tribe culture. Textures are still a work in progress. Let me know what you think!!
Really nice and a big fan of Dune I still all the books and the movies! Welcome to SC2mapsters and good looking model . Are you planing on doing the 3 factions?
Diffiuse map and mesh look good, but there's a few things you could improve.
1. He looks a bit plastic, look at those speculars. You need either to edit spec map, or create a gloss map, and make it white on the sabre, and gray on the clothes. Also, increase spec power of the material.
2. The sabre coul look realy metallic if you would make it much darker, give it some sharp specularity, and create (or download somwhere) a nice desert skybox/environtment map. Then you could use it for all metallic things in your map, to make them look good.
lookin' very interesting :) but i kinda feel the next version of (or different unit) could use some sort of armor as well, and since they're fantasy desert culture, the armor could really depend on which kind of creatures you plan to have them live with :) as for myself, i kinda imagine something like those 'morag tong' guys (from elder scrolls verse, or mainly dragonborn skyrim dlc) that use a lot of chitin parts, from some crazy large arthropods :b
Thanks everyone! @wargirlwargirl Funny story.... I had never heard of the Dune series until you mentioned it. Ill have to check that out.
@Zolden Thanks for the tips. I'm really a beginner especially when it comes to texturing. Ill try to implement those changes and see what happens!
@Veratai That is an excellent point. I like the chitin idea. This particular unit though I was going for more of a scout that has to travel light and fast. Too much armor in the heat and he'll cook!
Also here are some structures I've put together. These are completely mine, made from scratch. The previous unit began as a wow model.
For these new ones, the one on the left is a watchtower, the others are just basic huts though I may turn the middle one into a barracks-like structure.
I like them. I think an improvement might be to make a bit more color variety. Look at the terrain under them then look at them. The terrain has a bit more color diversity. A way you could explore adding a bit of fidelity in color is through weathering, especially at the foot of the buildings.
Not related to the project above but something I've been working on and off. This one is a robot drone. Its purpose is like a mechanical zergling. Cheap and disposable. Working on animating now. Also textures are a work in progress :)
Me too! Not as much time nowadays. This one is the more standard soldier drone. Haven't starts textures yet. I like it except for the hands. Not sure what to do with those yet....
