having a 3d printer for personal fun use is awesome, it's on my wishlist for chrismas 2030
No need to hold off that long. By 2020 they are likely going to start to be in every personal workshop and by 2030 you might find exotic material ones appearing in personal workshops (currently they are only affordable by large scale industry).
The only problem with the Zergling that I could see was that the finish on it was not very good. It might have been possible to add more detail to it by computing the print geometry with both the model geometry and some algorithm using some of the surface information. That might have resulted in a more detailed and smooth finish.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
Hey everyone,
I've been working on a new Youtube series called 3D print lab, and one of the first episodes is printing the Zergling from Starcraft 2!
Check it out
Fancy :3 how do they got colored after printing tho..?

Awesome, is it yours ? (the printer I mean)
Maybe divide the surfaces of the model so that it comes out better.

Other PLA material, they come in all different kinds of color

lol, it was low poly with smoothing, looked ok in soft, but then all the polys geometry got out on the printed thing
he should have used turbo smooth on that, or find a high poly model

I wonder what the in game cinematic models would look like printed out, they should be able to capture a lot more detail
Yeah the SMX models would probably be the best zerg to print out.

Most 3D models need milling down for perfection.

I hate to say it, but there is the PrintrBot simple metal for $600
And the M3D for $350 https://printm3d.com/themicro/
It's far more affordable than the full color machine that I have my eyes on, which indeed costs $60,000
Full color plastic machines are in the works, so that will be the day.
Where would I find those within the MPQ?
Yes, I own 2 Makerbot Replicator 2's for business
Turbosmooth is a good suggestion, I will try that on the next organic model I do.
