Thank you, guys, for ideas. I experimented alot and found that the best way is to use 3 billboard-meshes, each with mask/add material properties. And each with color on emissive layer and single color channel RTT on mask layer. For example, for red I have pure red as emissive, and RTT + R color channel on mask. And also, 4th mesh is required as a black background. With these settings we have the most clear image with the most realistic colors.
Not sure about the camera, but a decent picture is possible with 10.5 offset from Y axis for each camera, rotated by 0.8/-0.8 degrees around Z axis. Far cut should be map diagonal x 100, to guarantee that nothing is cut.
Camera angle should not matter at all, the real trick is the offset between the two cameras (or the two "sources"). The only rule would be that both cameras have to be at the same focal length and field of view, otherwise you'd end up with some weird perspectives. After all, irl things are shot in 3D and camera angle changes almost always :P
The real deal is to offset the camera the same distance each of your eyes would see the objects afar from each other, this is aprox. 2'' but increases depending on how far the object you're focusing is. But this is calculated via some weird optical logarythms formulaes so I'd just ignore it since it works perfect in this case :P
Thank you guys, but that sun idol took so many time. I would need about 2 months to finish create the models I need. But fortuantely, all model rip problems solved, so now after fixing the textures, animating, and adding some particle effects, I'll have all cuotl units and buildings. And they will look as good as they were made for sc2.
Wow, nice job with everything, sure nice to watch! I like the gel cubes and the gel pyramid that bended, so funny :) Btw where is that place with the glassy building you posted there? it's awesome, would love to go there.
Also since you do vehicles and such, you made some rocket launcher vehicle there, do you want to try making some cool looking DUNE II rocket launcher! that
Or the Deviator
Some people suggested that terran needs a new unit, some came up with the idea of a rocket launcher vehicle. I loved the idea but Blizz won't do. Personally I would use and need a DUNE II Rocket launcher as one of the units I would add to my Nano buildings from Empire Earth that need units to build, once I start importing them.
I even have the ability concept of such unit, I think I never posted it in blizz forums and I should for HotS. So, similar to the Dune II launcher, launches one or to two missiles that are not very accurate to the target ground (yes targets only ground units and structures and can target ground/terrain). Does splash damage at impact, the rockets may very inaccurate but when they are close or hit, the single target damage is big.
Just use a missile with random impact offset for siege tank sieged attack, why to create a new model for it?
Nah I was talking about the data system for it, not a model. Sure, nice idea,
Yeah I saw that one, then I saw you mentioned you were doing something Dune 2 related! Talk about thinking what I am thinking :P
You really are gonna do Dune II models? Awesome! I know I am doing a mixture race but when you imported the model for me I mentioned I would import some Nano buildings that were made for me or I did myself from Empire Earth. Now the units used for these buildings can be anything, so besides recreating some myself, my race is to consist of units or prototypes of units from other games. I had Warhammer 2 units for my race, then I changed them, As part of the new composition I am making, I was thinking of adding Dune II units, the Rocket Launcher or Deviator being a must. When you said you would do Dune II units, I can think of a lot more I would love to see and add since Dune 2 is my favorite old RTS game and will fill the emptyness of my race's units!
How do you intend to make them Dune II style and not SC2? Would they be more cartoony or? I think either way that is an awesome idea, Ornitopther, Rocket Launcher, Devastator, Sonic TANK (with the new HotS mechanics to scatter units and bodies when a wave is cast), w00t!!!
But yeah whenever you do and if you do them, I am glad you did a Rocket Launcher vehicle, even though for Dune it may need more accuracy.
Fine by me. Back in war3 I've used buildings that look like tanks and were also less detailed, I've used them like Dune II units. Hiveworkshop has made some rocket launcher vehicle but it was too wide or different to resemble the one from Dune. I like your vehicle, just the width it needs to have! For less detailed, I think when the details come from the texture such as on the Dune II screenshots above, that details, it will still be very cool!
Btw do you feel like releasing your rocket launcher vehicle? Tthough with wheels instead of deployed and err slightly changed missile pod like in the intro, would be nice.

Just remember to give me some credit with any demo maps/tutorials/assets.
Next task is to try and make/find a way to change the camera so it can be attached to the normal game camera.

Well, don't think there will be anything like that (but if - u'll be credited), cause I don't see any practical use of this 3d feature - too blurry.
Meanwhile, finished animatin Sun Idol model:
Very well done.

Was refering to making RTT practical. Nice Sun Idol by the way.

yea, it was just a first test with different brightness/contrast on layers, in final version they'll look more similar to each other
Tried to use ribbons for clothes emulations. Could be more realistic, but max crashed, was lazy to redo the model.

Needs work. The fanboys always want the upskirt view on death.

My attempt to recreate dune2 launcher ended up with this:
It's a bit deployed, but can be edited to look like a vehicle.
But actually, I will recreate all dune 2 models if (or rather when) I decide to remake dune 2. But they will be in dune 2 stule, not sc2.

Less details, retro style.
And another ribbon driven skirt experiment.
@Zolden: Go Awesome, now Terran can have Hawaian Dancers in their infantry ;-)

Nothing special, just checked if we can create beams in Art Tools. Yes, we can.
Can you have beams with attachment points? For example the beam launches and as it stretches the attachment points are dragged equal distances apart?
