I was wondering if there were any map projects that required some fully custom units.
Currently, I don't have set map ideas and I don't want to just modify existing units.
I'm looking for some creative unit development work.
Units that would have to be built from the ground up.
If you guys have concept art and want it made into a unit that would be great.
Here's my first custom unit. It has basic walk and stand animations.
Here's the in-game demonstration. Don't mind the lag - it's due to the recording.
Thanks zeldarules28,
I had a plan for this model to develop it into what the 2d flash version I made was like:
But now I'm just looking to partner up with a team working on a project which requires 'original' content to be modeled, textured, and animated.
I usually double in art and programming. But currently I'm looking to build my 3D portfolio.
GhostNova91 looks good. Could you gather the high poly versions?
Converting to a low poly unit is relatively easy.
Here's a recent convert from a 30,000poly model I did:
1,368 polys
The texturing is rough because it was just a material bake-in,
proof of concept thing.
How small a file size can you make your models? At the moment I'm working on a mod, that I'd love to have custom models in, but with the 10.5 MB and 21MB limits, it's not likely to happen any time soon. Regardless, I think that's probably gonna be a more useful measure of modeling at the moment than anything else, all well an' good haveing an awesome unit, but if you can't upload it, no one can see it.
Regardless, good work, hope to see anything else you do.
The bear model at 470poly and 2 animations is 170KB. But the bottleneck lies in the textures.
That's why i converted the .tga 512x512 textures to .dds But still they're 342KB each.
I'm using 2 textures the normal and diffuse maps. So in total the model is 854KB.
Now I'm wondering whether the models get compressed on export. I mean if I zip it, the filesize is 373KB.
if you'd like to join my team I could definitely have a use for you with modeling and such! the page is on the left under my avatar and there is a forum, or you can PM me
@Nitroball:
Wow really? I thought it'd be bigger. Well if ya get some free time and would like to help on my project between your own/others projects, feel free to PM me.

Looks good but all you did in the video is walk around =[ Add in some cool models to go with some cool abilties and your good!
What exactly are you looking for, though?

Here's an HDR render of the model.
I'm not so much a team as I am just one guy trying to make some awesome maps but I have some suggestions I could use if you're interested.
Terran Ghost from StarCraft 1 with the old bulky canister rifle and hopefully idle animations like the wireframe of the ghost in the picture.
Terran Marine from StarCraft 1 with the old guass rifle.
Terran Firebat from StarCraft 1.
The old Ghost but with a head and a beret instead of a mask and goggles for Duran.
The old Hydralisk.
And finally Jim Raynor unit in his civies with a gun.
Yeah I'm not asking you to do all of them (it is a lot) but if you're up to taking a few of these down I'd appreciate it.
@GhostNova91: Go
nearly all of those models exist in high poly versions, all that woudl be needed is skeletons and animations done for the models.
@happy04: Go
Raynor appears in high poly but I wanted a new unit for him that wasn't as high.
And the rest of the units I wanted were from StarCraft, not the StarCraft 2 versions already in game.

@aGoomba I'll check it out.
@Wolf1322 could you pm me the details?
