I just started playing with waves in the AI module. Up until now I have used triggers to create my waves, when a certain time expires create x units and so on.
I think once you get used to it, AI editor can be faster to set up your waves. Though with triggers you can always set all kinds of crazy customization with conditions n whatnot. Though since the AI editor lets you trigger triggers through it, I suppose you can add on lots of stuff too by combining the two.
