So I have the Marine and Marine Copy. Whenever I try to change the name of one, it automatically changes the name to the other, so it will be Marine and Marine Copy or Joe and Joe Copy etc. Is there some weird setting somewhere doing this? I recall having this work fine before, but obviously something is different now...
I actually would like to know about this as well. I tried duplicating a siege tank once and the same thing happened. It was incredibly frustrating and the only workaround I could find was duplicating the merc version of the tank and switching around some actors and effects.
I'm on mobile now and sorry I can't do any testing myself, but I can suggest having a look at the ID of the unit and changing that before anything else, changing the parent to a default setting, making edits via XML view or while viewing raw data, or restarting the editor.
I suspect it has to do with text strings and IDs as defined in the Text module but I'm not certain (and it's a definite "no" of stat modifications etc. also are linked).

If the tow unit's are share the same actor/actor's in an way you will get that.
It is because they share the same unit name text reference. Use XML view to delete the name text reference field to reset it to a unique default.
Got it, thanks ImperialGood you solved a problem that's plagued me for years :)
