The easiest way to learn anything is to look at something similar that's already in the game. So take a careful look at how the Hellion attack works and you'll figure it out. As an overview, the Hellion creates a Persistent Effect that progressively launches Search effects along points on the line, and each time it searches a small radius. So it's not really a line attack, but a line of overlapping circles. It also automatically hits the attack target so that it can't miss, and it uses Markers to make sure that it doesn't hit any unit twice, even if it is found in multiple circles.
100% correct, have a cookie. Although you forgot to mention the change in reference used in the campaign version actors where the upgrade could have a range increase.
So been staring at the Hellion weapon, corresponding effects from Liberty.SC2Mod (saw more, narrowed it down to see what the hell was going on, lol). One thing I don't understand is where the Hellion - Infernal Flame Thrower (Set) comes into play. It isn't in the weapon or the unit, and from how I'm understanding it, it goes from Create Persistent to Search to Set to whatever the set does. Or at least that is how the raynor snipe ability works on posted tutorial. Am I missing something(or blind...), or is the Hellion Set simply unused?
It seems the Set is an unused relic, probably an alternative way to ensure the main target takes a hit, which is now done via the Effect-Initial field on the persistent effect.
Like a Hellion, how do I make a weapon that hits multiple targets in 1 line.
;)

(This is all from memory.)

Good to hear, means I'm not going crazy, errmm crazier. Thanks Photoloss.
Just like raynor has some unused weapon swap buffs.
