Behemoth AI
Behemoth AI will be a non-cheating computer AI with diamond-level micro and macro. In the future. Right now it's in a very eary stage of development.
Features:
- Expands like a mad man
- Micros sentries and phoenixes like a mad man
- Builds counters like a mad man
- It's on a custom 1v1 melee map designed by me
- Designed (almost) entirely in AI files as a sixth level of difficulty rather than in triggers
It's not as complete as I wanted it to be, but this is what I've got. Known caveats:
- Cheats: It can see the whole map. This is because I'm not done with scouting techniques yet.
- A couple AI functions are still in triggers and haven't been ported to the AI files yet.
- It's not nearly as good as it will be.
- Phoenix micro basically ignores all units except mutas (For kiting. Its attack AI is normal non-micro for all non-muta air units). This will be expanded upon in the future.
- Sentry AI is unoptimized (and unfinished). Large battles with many sentries may result in heavy lag.
- Only PvZ (Zerg player, Protoss computer) is currently supported!
I named it 'fledgling' to reiterate the fact that it's nowhere near completion or even a state I'd consider ready for an alpha release. I think it will probably be able to beat most bronze/silver players regardless. I haven't done extensive testing with mutas or anything past T2 so feel free to try, but I can't promise it will counter very well. :)

Have you ever considered making a Melee map with the Behemoth AI players being in control of their army, and players are able to "Possess" units to temporarily do things for a brief moment?
What would be cool is Protoss cpu vs cpu, and players have to help the computer by commanding heroes or possessing their allied unit to use tactics.
@tdhz77
your modified maps neutered the A.I.
it just sits and mines as trips as mentioned.
Hi, I like to provide some feedback.
In Zerg vs Protoss, there is a very easy exploit currently. You can make a bunch of burrowed roaches and AI won't produce an observer as a responds. Since it doesn't build cannons either it's very easy to get in the base.
When I unborrow and attack the enemy army will come back to attack the roaches. Simply burrow and they walk away to attack my base.. I unburrow right after and it takes a while before the army returns.
This way I can destroy building per building, without losing a single roach, and the enemy will never attempt a base trade, because they run back after a few seconds after I start attacking.
Hope this is helpful.
yeah, those 2 maps run, but the zerg/terran opponent just mines. nothing else =(
I tried the files from the links... and both of them seem to do pretty much nothing. The AI would just send an overlord and mine with 6 drones... (...);
I've made starting race for Terran and Protoss for us Mac users! If somebody could please test this out, as I have no way of doing this until this weekend.

Have fun!
Please post this map with different starting races. Us Mac people would greatly appreciate it!
Not trying to offend the maker, the AI is really good. However, I don't think this is diamond level play. I destroyed the AI with very little trouble. I'd say it's at low platinum level of difficulty at best. I'm still very impressed with the AI though.
For those saying "two many sentries", the composition seems pretty standard. Maybe a FEW too many, but against zerg you want those FFs.
Anyway, is there any place to find versions of this map with different starting races (for us Mac guys that can't change the map)?
Make sure and put the sc2map file Documents>Blizzard>Starcraft 2 Beta
Also make sure you download the latest version because the old version did not work with osx 10.5x - I hope this helps.
Hello, I am using a MAC and need some help...
I take this Behemoth .SC2Map file. I load it in MapCraft and hit launch. It loads really fast and then just tells me that it can't be loaded. Anyone having the same problem or now how I can render this?
I think everyone is taking this out of context, this AI is excellent play and definitely diamond level play in terms of melee play. The early zealot/sentry rush is great practice against a purely zerglinginfestor build and it think has improved my game play immensely. Sure its an AI and to be exploited but if your looking for some great practice with challenging builds during sc2 downtime, this is great.
For us Mac Users, could you please post maps with terran and toss as player 1? I would love to do it myself if I had the resources, "Not enough minerals" Thanks so much, and if you were wondering "map change player property!" :)
I should specify, I realize that I need to use the map editor/map test, however.. I just downloaded the beta client on my PC side and as a result, do I need to UPDATE it? if so, where can I?
Sorry for the extremely newbie question, but once SC2 BETA is installed, how exactly do I launch this file?? I have it downloaded but cant find a FAQ to show how to launch it..
Is it normal for it not to kill mind controlled units when its being attacked?
I'm a gold level player and I beat the AI pretty easily. A few points:
1. The AI doesn't use its Phoenixes properly. It keeps moving them away from the Mutalisks which works if I try to chase the nix down, but if I leave them alone and go for their mineral line instead they just hang out and don't help defend at all.
2. The AI responds to tech (such as hydra den) straight away by teching to the appropriate response...even if you never bother building many units of that type. Maybe it should check for army composition in addition to just existing tech structures?
3. It never builds Photon Cannons on its mineral line despite repeated harassment (by speedlings, mutas, etc). Also its army always seemed to be out of position when I harassed, allowing for very easy probe kills.
4. I don't know why it insists on building mass Zealot + Sentry no matter the situation. This causes it to spend all of its money on such units rather than being able to build what it just teched up to. I guess it works fine if the AI's economy is booming, but its extremely bad at digging itself out of a hole.
I am a top Diamond player "Terran"
I modded the map to force player one to be terran and everything ran good.
I beat the Ai before he could even react a reaper + bunker rush kills him very easy.
Do I really need to be zerg for him to react right?
I tried a Mech build vs him I started with duel wall at the nat and when he attacked a bunker + 2 hellions held him off.
after the first attack he didnt do much but build on every expo on the map and build zealots sentry's and a few stalkers my 5 tanks and 8 hellions easily crushed him I'm going to go try him vs zerg maybe you set the ai to react to x mob with y mob so i'll go see.
so far its a better ai the what blizzard gave up but maybe you should have it react to move then just zerg?>
You should work on the AI knowing when it has a clear advantage and when not. I had 6 lings and 1 spinecrawler and he had like 6 zealots, 2 sentries and a void ray. I was scared of him pushing, but he didn't, and later I steamrolled him by harrassing him with mutas and after getting enough mutas just killing his army. I also got a 'divide by 0' error quite some times, you should only make that trigger actually trigger when the life is above 0.
The AI is now of the level of a silver-gold player imo. Still, a REALLY good job! It's a huge upgrade from the original, so thanks a lot for that :)
I am a diamond player as well. It was fun, thank you. It was at least nice to be able to touch the game while the servers are down. A few findings:
Something is going wrong in the code that is dividing by zero. Lot of Sentries, as mentioned. AI will continue to try and send probes out to make Nexus even when the probability of survival is 0. It was rather funny at the end of the game when I had my army at the choke and the AI would continually send out probes without any support. :)
It's counter to mass hydras appears to be void rays and a few colossi which aren't that effective. Colossi, yes, void rays, no.
At first when I tried to do it just with lings it was rather difficult. Force fields just destroy the lings :). With mass hydra, however, it is very easy.
Thank you for a wonderful map and a good time.
