Space Command 2
Space Command 2
Adaption and continued development of a wc3 map.
My friend Firzen_Zero and I are in the planning stages of development for a map based on our map from wc3.
- Type: Space Conquest
- Players: 14
- Teams: FFA with teams established ingame via diplomacy
- Target Length of game: 1-6 Hours, depending on settings chosen
General Information:
This map begins with the player taking control of a single planet and slowly expanding to surrounding planets, moons, asteroids and later star systems. As the player amasses wealth, he can begin to research technologies, develop planets and build ships. After a while, as Terraforming and Diplomacy become available, contest for previously uncolonizable resource-rich worlds will inevitably lead to conflict.
Ships:
The player will have the option to build four kinds of ships: Destroyers, Cruisers, Dreadnaughts and Superdreadnoughts. Most ships have unique abilities which are unlocked once certain levels of technologies are available and are then researched separately.
- Sloop - A fast, weak destroyer without any tech requirements.
- Battlecruiser - The backbone of cruiser fleets. It deals large amounts of damage in short bursts with its Rapid Fire Gun.
- Light Carrier - This ship is classified as a cruiser and launches swarms of interceptors instead of having a main attack. It can also dock smaller destroyers to repair them.
- Aurora - A Dreadnought capable of inflicting massive damage from afar. The Aurora's attack devastates its target's shields.
- Nemesis - A Dreadnought capable of withstanding huge amounts of damage. This ship can transfer power directly from its main reactor to its shields, increasing their effectiveness.
- Superdreadnoughts - These are the flagships of any developed empire, providing support and boasting a powerful attack. Only one of this class be built by each empire. Among the SDN are the Negator, the Planet Destroyer and the Mothership.
Technology:
There will be 96 research fields available in the empire research screen. Here are a few examples of research, and some of the benefits they provide.
- Advanced Production - Increases resource output by a relative amount.
- Colonization - Allows planets with more hazardous conditions to be colonized and increases their usable space.
- Nano Robotics - Decreases the build-time of ships.
- Weapons Technology - Increases the damage inflicted by ship weapons.
- Shield Technology - Increases the maximum shields and shield regeneration of all ships.
- Improved Reactors - Increases the maximum energy of all ships.
Map:
Every game a map of the size determined by the game variant will be generated. Each system may contain several planets or other stellar objects and is connected to a few other systems by warp lanes. Until the discovery of star gates or warp drives, no other way to move between systems will be available.
- Tiny - 2 systems per player
- Small - 3 systems per player
- Normal - 5 systems per player
- Large - 7 systems per player
- Huge - 9 systems per player
Buildings:
Planets have a limited amount of space for buildings, depending on size and terraforming research.
- Resource Buildings - These buildings produce resources continually, modified by the planet and the player's resource research. The resource types are: Metals, Synthetics, Crystals and Research
- Shipyards - The three types of shipyard, Destroyer Shipyard, Cruiser Shipyard and Orbital Shipyard, can be built on any planet that meets the requirements.
- Turrets - These structures provide protection for the planet they are built on.
Artifacts:
Certain Asteroids and planets will contain artifacts which impart special powers based on the artifact. Some will affect buildings, and others will affect ships. Rare derelict ships may also be acquired.
Pirates:
In addition to the players, there will be at least one faction of pirates, which will do hit-and-run attacks against the player's planets. These pirates will develop as the player develops, meaning that they should always be a threat to be concerned about.
So thats some copy....
Nope, and I haven't even played a custom game since release.
Okay thanks for the answers! ;) Keep up the good work. I hope it will come out soon!
Umm i found a map named Star Carnage aaand that was awsome is that your work? Cuz that was like the space command in WC3 just much better and only in alpha stage.
I was going to update the main project page, but I was busy. I'll probably get to it today or tomorrow.
No, sorry. Expect a release sometime in september, maybe late august. We'll release the map in a much more polished state than SpC1 was ever in.
Yes, my copy should arrive in a few hours.
Hey guys!
Can you post some news or some pic? Will the map be ready in jul.27? And will you buy the game?
If you need a beta tester, i'm completely interested.
Goodluck guys, keep this page updated!
We're not sure about a release date yet, we're interested in making this as complete as we can before releasing it officially, although we may be interested in a few beta testers at a point sometime before our release date.
Ey guys Wazzup with the map? Can u tell some release date? I hope its coming out SOON! :D
Ovidiusss, what makes you think that wc3 doesn't work on Windows 7? I'm running it right now, maybe you just need to give it the proper permissions.
OK tell me if you need some help!
:)
Dont give up the good work!
I love this map on wc3 , too bad that wc3 doesn't work on windows 7 , but tnx 4 having the chance to play it on sc2 :) Good work !
Thanks for your feedback. We haven't worked out many of the details yet. Currently we are planning the ships and their progression.
I'll update this page soon to include newly planned stuff.
Hey!
These are very cool plans! I love the space command (in wc3) too but thats only plans. Im a very good triggerer in wc and an average triggerer in SC2 so is there any way to I can help you in your work? Or can we share the map developing?
Haha hell yah you still have fans!
I hope espionage is as useful in this one as in the old, it was a little tedious but thats what made it so good.
I remember grid-scanning the map and writing down all my co-ordinates I found, then trading them to other players for favours =] As well as remaining completely hidden of course.
In terms of suggestions? I'd say keep the amount of upgrades but just add more, I liked the fact that if you went for a raider style of play you could upgrade your cargo bays to store more loots, etc, or if you were a colony style you upgraded your radar and economy, as well as planetary defenses (Are those still in?) The more I can customize and make my empire feel like it's own the better =]
I am a touch curious, are you guys planning on doing planetary invasion? Also what are some features of individual planets? I loved the % more yield to X resource.
absolutely loved the wc3 version of space command and i'm gald to see you are coming back for a 2nd version, i'll keep my eyes on this page to see if i can come up with any cool idea (dont hold your breath).
I'd also like to ask if you have a website or if your going to be devloping it from here?
Edit: after thinking about it for a while, what i would like to see is less options there was alot of things you could disabe and enable in Space Command, this in my experience made it rather dificult to host (small comunity as well). One player would want some settings another would want something compelately diffrent and if they dont get what they want they would leave, this is one of the main reasons i stoped hosting the game.
How to have less options with out watering the game down to much is something that won't be easy but i'm sure you could come up with something.
That's what we're going for :) I'm glad to see we still have fans! Feel free to post suggestions you had for SpC1, although a LOT is changing from SpC1 -> SpC2 its going to be all good :P
KICK ASS! Funny enough today in physics class I was hoping you guys would do a port/sequal to SC2.
Keep working :D Space Command 1 I found was to be extremely enjoyable and fun. It was one of the few games I felt I could make a comeback in after being the underdog. I don't know, just an amazing map in general.
Excited for artifacts! Good work gents
awesome i loved the wc3 version and this has to be better :D
