Space Command 2

Adaption and continued development of a wc3 map.

My friend Firzen_Zero and I are in the planning stages of development for a map based on our map from wc3.

  • Type: Space Conquest
  • Players: 14
  • Teams: FFA with teams established ingame via diplomacy
  • Target Length of game: 1-6 Hours, depending on settings chosen

General Information:

This map begins with the player taking control of a single planet and slowly expanding to surrounding planets, moons, asteroids and later star systems. As the player amasses wealth, he can begin to research technologies, develop planets and build ships. After a while, as Terraforming and Diplomacy become available, contest for previously uncolonizable resource-rich worlds will inevitably lead to conflict.

Ships:

The player will have the option to build four kinds of ships: Destroyers, Cruisers, Dreadnaughts and Superdreadnoughts. Most ships have unique abilities which are unlocked once certain levels of technologies are available and are then researched separately.

  • Sloop - A fast, weak destroyer without any tech requirements.
  • Battlecruiser - The backbone of cruiser fleets. It deals large amounts of damage in short bursts with its Rapid Fire Gun.
  • Light Carrier - This ship is classified as a cruiser and launches swarms of interceptors instead of having a main attack. It can also dock smaller destroyers to repair them.
  • Aurora - A Dreadnought capable of inflicting massive damage from afar. The Aurora's attack devastates its target's shields.
  • Nemesis - A Dreadnought capable of withstanding huge amounts of damage. This ship can transfer power directly from its main reactor to its shields, increasing their effectiveness.
  • Superdreadnoughts - These are the flagships of any developed empire, providing support and boasting a powerful attack. Only one of this class be built by each empire. Among the SDN are the Negator, the Planet Destroyer and the Mothership.

Technology:

There will be 96 research fields available in the empire research screen. Here are a few examples of research, and some of the benefits they provide.

  • Advanced Production - Increases resource output by a relative amount.
  • Colonization - Allows planets with more hazardous conditions to be colonized and increases their usable space.
  • Nano Robotics - Decreases the build-time of ships.
  • Weapons Technology - Increases the damage inflicted by ship weapons.
  • Shield Technology - Increases the maximum shields and shield regeneration of all ships.
  • Improved Reactors - Increases the maximum energy of all ships.

Map:

Every game a map of the size determined by the game variant will be generated. Each system may contain several planets or other stellar objects and is connected to a few other systems by warp lanes. Until the discovery of star gates or warp drives, no other way to move between systems will be available.

  • Tiny - 2 systems per player
  • Small - 3 systems per player
  • Normal - 5 systems per player
  • Large - 7 systems per player
  • Huge - 9 systems per player

Buildings:

Planets have a limited amount of space for buildings, depending on size and terraforming research.

  • Resource Buildings - These buildings produce resources continually, modified by the planet and the player's resource research. The resource types are: Metals, Synthetics, Crystals and Research
  • Shipyards - The three types of shipyard, Destroyer Shipyard, Cruiser Shipyard and Orbital Shipyard, can be built on any planet that meets the requirements.
  • Turrets - These structures provide protection for the planet they are built on.

Artifacts:

Certain Asteroids and planets will contain artifacts which impart special powers based on the artifact. Some will affect buildings, and others will affect ships. Rare derelict ships may also be acquired.

Pirates:

In addition to the players, there will be at least one faction of pirates, which will do hit-and-run attacks against the player's planets. These pirates will develop as the player develops, meaning that they should always be a threat to be concerned about.
