Forever and a day in the making, here's my take on the legendary UED campaign from Starcraft: Brood War. Nostalgic, faithful to the original, surprisingly fresh at the same time and most of all fun to play are the things I was going for when creating it.
Thanks to a bunch of people including but not necessarily limited to Telenil, christdaugherty, Superfield, Jimm3110, Ultraling, Maverck, GnaReffotsirk for their feedback and/or other (direct or indirect) contributions to this little project. Also thanks to my brother for all the playtesting I made him do, and thanks to all you people for the feedback/support and/or just general interest in the project. Much fun was had making the campaign (among other things), I hope you'll have at least as much fun playing.

How to play
- extract the mod file (SC1BWmod) to your "Mods" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (NOT the folder under "My Documents")
- extract the map pack to the "Maps" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (create the folder if it doesn't exist)
- extract the Campaign Launcher & setup to the same "Maps" folder (not the campaign folder)
Campaign Launcher installation:
- launch the Starcraft 2 editor
- open the setup map named SCMRsetup in your Maps folder and click the "test document" button on the top right (or press ctrl+F9)
- wait until the launcher loads and you're at the title screen, then save the game and exit the map (press esc or F10 to open the game menu)
- find the save file (named "Starcraft - Mass Recall" by default) in (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Saves/VersusAI
- copy or move the save file to the saves folder under your account folder (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Accounts/.../.../Saves/Multiplayer (for example; any of the save folders will do)
- Done! You can now log into the appropriate account and load the save from the load game-screen. You can use this save to play each episode.
more info:
- You can copy the save file to whatever accounts you want. For example, if you want to play offline, copy it to your guest account folder.
- If you're unsure of the right folders or can't find the Starcraft II documents folder, log into an account of your choice in SC2, go to the load game-screen, click on a save and click the "show in folder"-button. It will take you to the appropriate saves folder.

I was wondering if you guys were going to update the original campains with the defiler and updated carrier model. It would also be cool to have a devouer model. Also in the stand artanis is not shown in the mission brefings he is just a blur.
PS. very nice job on iron fist it is without a dout the best mod I have ever played

I don't think Hots will come first, that's taking a lot of time, we need Operation Cannot Wait Longer part 2. Anyway from 15 of May I will be totally possessed by Diablo 3 :D
What do you think about do a violet textures for the green missile (the one of corruptor) that use the Devourer. Episode 6 will take 3-4 months so.

I've made a couple of missions from Episode VI, but couldn't work on it anymore due to real disturbances. I'll probably resume the work at some point, but it's going to be much longer until release. The only reason we could release two and a half campaign over three months is that the Jones, Chris and I worked in parallel for quite a while.
Queen of Blades *will* be released at some point, but Heart of the Swarm will probably come first.

Well I guess that beyond some stylistic differences, Jones Protoss campaigns would have more cutscenes and more doodads on the maps :p Finding good angles for the camera really takes a lot of time, so I just re-made scripted intros and endings as they were in Brood War. Also remember that the Terran and the UED are humans, so it is easier to relate to them and add elements to improve the ambiance than in a Zerg or Protoss campaign.

You are right, but since it had less health died in a matter of seconds and I didn't see it alive the first time attacked. When you kill Cerebrate, it should disable all units, at least in this mission, otherwise its too hard, IMO should be like this: disable units for easy mode, active units in hard mode, to balance it. The dominion officer I was talking is this http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Dominion_officer Maybe is too young to represent Du Galle but he has black uniform and a very similar black beret. I hope episode 6 will be released :D

U are right the Jones' campaigns are the best,"The Fall" sucks very much,there is no cinematics,the brutal mode is broken,the waves don't have much sense,and also the heroes/carrier textures suck very much.Much better "The Stand" here the cinematics,carrir models,heroes and waves are erally good :D So good job for Jones313-Jimm3110-Telenil-Choum28 :D,where is Ultraling?T.T
@Jones313 outstanding job on the terran campaign so far, u have indeed out done your self, i have have one question, why dont spider mines work like detectors? i tryed setting some mines around my base in the ground zero mission at the beginning of the mission they could kill some of the ghosts that were trying to nuke me and save some of the reinforcement units that we get but instead the mines just pop up for a little bit and then sink idk if thats intentionally or not because in the original brood wars you could set some mines and when the enemy ghosts come in, the mines will detect them and pop up and kill them, other then that the rest is great, i wish you woulda done both Protoss campaigns, the 2 are great, but there not epic like yours come out :D, i love how u added the fall out music to the intro and the augustgrad city, i wonder how the portoss campaign woulda looked like if u did it, but great job man keep it up and i hope you guys can find a permanent solution to the saved loads because i tend to lose sometimes and when i load my saved games they wont load and it gives me that mod error message and that does tend to get a little annoying
"Some of the unit colors: To me they feel like a limitation of the game in the original campaign, having to use different colors for different players. For example I'd rather have the UED reinforcements appear white rather than teal or whatever at first and then magically transform into white." Yeah u are right,but for the mutalisk u must use violet because they are (mission 6 and 8) of the Kerrigan Swarm,not of the brown zerg on left base (m 6) or the "immortal sunken colony" (mission 8) Also scout u could do it green on cutscenes,because a "small protoss fleet" is not necassary the zeratul/artanis fleet,but it could be also a "green" fleet :). For the UED,Mengsk ship and Hyperion the colour are right (White,Red and Blue).
Yeah, the Duran portrait from GhostNova seems pretty good. We shall see.
I kind of had a vision for map 7, I guess. Coincidentally, I've been playing Dead Space lately. :)

I don't know, Jackson is old. To me he looks like the perfect DuGalle. I'm not actually sure what this Dominion officer you're talking about looks like... I'll look him up.
As for (The) Torrasque, are you sure it didn't run into your expansion or something and you just missed it..? The first one has only half health and can die pretty quickly.

Ok i finished the campaign.
And this is the best remake of the 5 that you actually do.
Really good cinematics,citations,difficulty (i do all 5 campaigns on hard (very hard the ep 3,because brutal is not fixed ;p) and the fidelity with the original missions is here much strong.
But i have some suggestion and bugs/Mistakes to report.
Mission 1:On intro cinematic i suggest you to show two civils that speak among them when stukov and dugalle start to speak.
Why bunker?(I suppose it is a connection with the final cinematics of Zerg campaign)I suggest u to use a firebat,2 marine and a marauder for the marine that shoot a missile,why few zergling that attack it (there was no hydra on original cinematic),and no nuke for the end.But a tons of ling that come to kill the survived marines,the firebat was killed by a guardian if u look very well the original cinematic.
Why i cannot skip in-game cinematics?Because they are very good but be forced to see them all time that i start some mission is not so much good.
What do u think about this model for the sc1 firebat?it look more near to the original firebat!

Mission 2:It's like the BCs that u free "touch" the terrain when they fly to the rally point.
It's correct that i can see all the fly of the BCs to the rally point?
There isn't all sc1 quotes.
Tank blinded can't shot medic but he can hit ghost??Blind ablilty is bugged?
Why did u start the battle between the BCs on the cinematic?So some of the enemy BC arrive to me damaged.
Science Vessel EMP don't work on all mission.
I find hard to target enemies with yamato cannon (especially the guardians) i don't understand why.
When i start my on-line sc2 before playing sc1 ep 5 i can't hear my units that shoot D:
Mission 5:(I did only the one with BC) On the final cinematic the last dialogues arrive little late.
The scouts and the ship of dugalle and wraiths was sea green,the ship of mengsk was yellow and the 6 scouts+Hyperion was green,for the scout they was 4 on left side of Hyperion and 2 on the right side.
M6:Awesome intro cutscene :D
But i can't control valkyrie during the battle as on the original,but i doesn't matter also if i lose a valkyrie during the cinematic.
Mission 6:Why on the final cinematic the camera watch the warpgate for 3/4 of the cutscene?Also why mutalisk on the cutscene is brown instead of the violet of the original "cutscene"?
Why i can't see the WarpGate and the cannon that defend it?
Why when my unit on intro cinematic aren't sea green,but they are immediately white?
Mission 7:This is one of the most cool missions on this Ep. 5 ;)
Why Duran haven't cloack?
Why duran is blue instead of Sea green (this happen on all mission on u use Duran)
When shadow fall i can't hear units that shoot D:

Mission 8:The same bug of the briefing green written of the mission 2 ;p
Why on final cutscene mutalisks/kerrigan/scourge aren't violet and duran isn't sea green?

Playing last mission now! Mission 06 and 07 are great, especially mission 07. I don't see the Torrasque in last mission, only his roar and then the marine that say they just killed one of them, but he never ran into my base

About zerg hive, is not really a problem since I've wiped out all those bastards with a team composed of 30+ marines (eheheh) but is quite different from SC1, but anyway not so important. benoit531 is right about Duran, there is a well done Duran unit here made by GhostNova, and IMO it will fit perfectly (as icon you can use the SC1 one). Also I suggest to use jackson's revenge portrait for Stukov (since they both have beard and a similar beret, is the closest portrait to Stukov) and use Dominion officer portrait for DuGalle (they use a very similar black uniform and black beret)

Hey, thanks for the input. Yeah, the Valkyrie thing is a mistake... though I feel that the total of two missions where Valkyries are available in the original is way too little screen time for such an iconic UED unit. I'll probably keep them available from map 5 on, is what I'm trying to say.
The Zerg hostility on the other hand is intentional. Killing the Hives stops the AI functions so that the particular Zerg won't rebuild anything or attack, but it'll still defend itself when attacked. I dunno, it felt more natural to me to have the Zerg retain some basic functions rather than just sit there while getting shot at. I mean, Garm Brood didn't completely shut down either when Zasz was killed, right..?
Glitches resolved and finally I can play it. I'm on mission 03: in original BW valkyries were not available here and when you kill an hive all zerg of the color of the destroyed hive turns to neutral, here they continue to be hostile even after hive destruction. Now I'll play mission 04 and report bugs/glitches etc... Til now the campaign is perfect! Since this is my favourite of BW, I can't wait to complete it

Yes, I had graphics bugs when I had to re-instal my drivers. All the portraits looked dark, and most of the ground went dark. You can normally reset the driver to the previous version using the control panel.
My PC being a DELL, I eventually solved the problem by downloading the appropriate version of the driver from the DELL website, rather than from the CD I got with the computer or the ATI website.
Argh, it seems that graphical glitches are in every SC game i open. Yesterday I've downloaded new ATI drivers, so this maybe the reason. Other ATI users experience this troubles?
