First of all, huge thanks to Ultraling and Maverck for having done most of the work and making this campaign possible. Both of them were awesome about letting me use their stuff to put this thing together. These are originally Ultraling's maps, found here in sc2mapster. I picked them up a long time ago and slowly worked on them, editing terrain, adding all kinds of flavor here and there, including Maverck's Brood War mod, and this is the result.
Features
- all 10 original missions + the tutorial
- original SC1 units and structures with original stats, including custom models
- original SC1 Terran soundtrack
- all the dialogue, voice acting & other miscellaneous text from the original campaign
- classic unit decals, such as Alpha Squadron, Sons of Korhal etc.
"Artistic License"
(some notable differences from the original campaign)
- Medics - to balance out the units Brood War style, and to provide more options to the player
- extra "hero" abilities: Kerrigan has the snipe ability, Raynor can replenish Spider Mines
- Mission 4 "The Jacobs Installation" - third person mode (optional)
- two difficulty levels - with a somewhat more aggressive AI than in the original, in order to provide some challenge to the average player

How to play
- extract the mod file (SC1BWmod) to your "Mods" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (NOT the folder under "My Documents")
- extract the map pack to the "Maps" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (create the folder if it doesn't exist)
- extract the Campaign Launcher & setup to the same "Maps" folder (not the campaign folder)
Campaign Launcher installation:
- launch the Starcraft 2 editor
- open the setup map named SCMRsetup in your Maps folder and click the "test document" button on the top right (or press ctrl+F9)
- wait until the launcher loads and you're at the title screen, then save the game and exit the map (press esc or F10 to open the game menu)
- find the save file (named "Starcraft - Mass Recall" by default) in (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Saves/VersusAI
- copy or move the save file to the saves folder under your account folder (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Accounts/.../.../Saves/Multiplayer (for example; any of the save folders will do)
- Done! You can now log into the appropriate account and load the save from the load game-screen. You can use this save to play each episode.
more info:
- You can copy the save file to whatever accounts you want. For example, if you want to play offline, copy it to your guest account folder.
- If you're unsure of the right folders or can't find the Starcraft II documents folder, log into an account of your choice in SC2, go to the load game-screen, click on a save and click the "show in folder"-button. It will take you to the appropriate saves folder.

A question for the maker of the maps. How do you have created a so perfect terrain, is at 99% identical to SC1 original maps. Have you used the legacy converter and added cliffs manually?
TheTorrasque:
Hmm, fair enough. Those are kind of a matter of opinion, I guess. One reason why there are SC2 voices in there is that the units lose their talking animations if they're replaced. So basically it's voices vs. animations. I know voices are more important, I personally replaced just the ones that are lame in SC2 (Vulture & Goliath =P). About the depots, yeah I guess, in fact they were bigger in Maverck's mod. I'll just say the maps had been done before that, and that the maps are pretty tightly packed already, bigger depots would mean less room to build. I tried to be accurate with the remake, but not copy every detail.
About the briefing music, I'm confused. I assume you mean the final map, where the music is different for dramatic effect, and I actually like it quite a bit! And about the loading screens, they would be more nostalgic I guess, but it was 1998 and they're just not the same quality.
Those are my thoughts anyway. You make valid points, it's a matter of preference, really.
GnaReffotsirk:
Whoa, thanks. I didn't actually know that either. The saves used to work regardless of the file location; I just assumed they broke the saving with one of the patches. And I should put that next map loading in there... also, thanks for the awesome models! Which I kind of "inherited" from Maverck's mod. I hope you don't mind. =P
Now it saves and work perfectly!!! Very thanks GnaReffotsirk! Now I can enjoy this wonderful remake at 100%!
As far as I recall, putting the maps in your Starcraft 2 maps directory will enable saving. And also loading next map, if it's in the triggers.
When I save the game, then i try to load, it says: "Impossible to find the map". What's wrong? Map work without problem (and I'm having great fun) but when I save this happens. Can someone help me please?
I'm playing some maps and seems that the dream of Sc1 in 3d went reality! Anyway I have some suggestions and presenting a list of things that should be fixed IMO:
1) Add the missing voices, not all original SC1 voices are present: SCV, marine, siege tank, science vessel, wraith and others are standard SC2 voices. 2) The supply depot is 2x2, it should be 2x3 (ok, small detail, but in SC1 was a little bigger) 3) In some maps the briefing music is present, in others is different, it needs to be fixed 4) I suggest to use original loading screen between mission 5) No music in first map
Zerg, yes. Protoss, I'm not sure. Probably, but not for a while. However, as Tasteless says: "expect a good game any second!"
Cool ! Great job ! You are planning to release the company for the Zerg or Protoss ?
Thanks man. I can only take a small part of the credit, as Ultraling and Maverck are the ones who really made this campaign happen. I just basically put things together and added a little stuff of my own. But thanks. I have actually been working on the Zerg episode, and it's getting pretty close to done. After that, I might have to breathe a little =P Obviously, the Protoss campaign needs to be done at some point too, can't say anything about that yet.
I am very glad to see this remake. I played it and I can say that this is very original and worked. I hope you will go for all of the episodes :) . Good job!
SORRY IF IM BEING GREEDY OR ANYTHING BUT...
GL FOR THE ZERG CAMPAIGN DUDE!!!
Thanks for the feedback, guys.
TerraStranger & Terminazor:
Sounds strange. Did you guys get the mod file, and place it in your Mods folder? Also, which game clients (localizations) are you using? The models not showing is unfortunate, I don't have an answer right now (a localization issue maybe), but I'll look into it.
I had some "issues" with the control towers myself, I tested it again just now and they seemed to build and work just fine, but it seems if you lift off and land next to the control tower again, it doesn't activate. I'll add it to "The List".
As for Raynor not appearing, I... don't know. Is the "SC1mod" mod file in your Mods folder? Which game client are you using? That's all I can offer right now, sorry.
Ultraling:
You do sound like you were drunk, haha. Seriously though, thanks for that. I'm glad you liked the maps, at first glance, anyway. And that you feel I've actually done something for them =P. The maps should feel... pretty familiar to you though, heh.
The Jacobs Installation... dammit, I just thought of something. If you have a higher resolution than mine (higher than 1280x1024), the camera might freak out at the start 'cos it doesn't "fit" between Raynor and the edge of the map. If you can manage to move Raynor towards the door, the camera should adjust to proper third person view. Will be fixed in the eventual next version.
If you didn't have that problem, ignore everything I just said. The map is basically just a straightforward shoot-everything-and-reach-the-end shooter. It's a bit beta-ish I know, friendlies get in your way and all that. I might try to make it smoother.
Nuke Silos... sorry. To be honest, I forget what exactly happened between me and them, I butchered the mod a bit I guess... Nukes are built in the Academy, SC2 style.
And about the Zerg campaign... I didn't wanna hype it up too much just yet, but... all the maps are pretty much done. It needs to be tested a bit more and small stuff like tech tree issues etc. need to be fixed, terrain could be smoothed out a bit, some more flavor could be added, but it's close to done.
wi1lywonka:
You mean the voice actress? =p You know, the uninfested Kerrigan portrait in SC2 is just a redhead Nova, and I don't really like her face.
I'll just play the original, but this is really cool.
PS- I hate the new Kerrigan.
but somehow i cant download the mod
When i tested it, the problem was, that there is no raynor on the first two missions (ok i just tested these two), and so i couldnt find raynor in the first mission (automatic loose, when you attack the zerg), and in the second, raynor couldnt survive (when you then attack a zerg its the same thing) :S
Sorry a little drunk while posting this. :) :) :) I just did a quick test of each of the maps on my EU and NA clients and they work properly on both. Great work, Jones. ;) I like what you've done with the maps. I can't wait to play through them proper when I have more time but seriously, excellent job so far. Is there some kind of TBA on that Zerg campaign? I wanted to start working on the next episodes a little and I wanna know where you're at. This is seriously some good stuff. <3 Every time I loaded each map I was like having nerdgasms. Good job, man! :D There are a few things that could be fine tuned to look even better but I know exactly what you're going for.
I had a bit of a problem understanding how the Jacobs Installation was supposed to work but I'll be able to provide proper criticisms and analysis on that later when I'm sober. It looks like a lot of fun. :D
Thanks you for this excellent contribution, Jones. You're a legend. :)
I love it! You're the man! <3 <3 <3
Oh yeah I forgot to mention. What happened to Nuke Silos? When I loaded up the maps from The Big Push and onwards I didn't find them. :( :(
I do not know, it is possible only at me so but models of the first StarCraft added in campaign are not displayed properly. Instead of them in game white spheres are visible only while in Galaxy Editor all is displayed normally. Icons taken of SC1 yet do not work and there is a problem with construction Control Tawer which opportunity of construction appears only after starport will fly up. Earlier constructed Control Tawer to starport it is not connected.
Feedback is more than welcome. Feel free to point out any bugs, glitches, even minor things like weird tooltips and such. The maps have been tested pretty thoroughly so things should be pretty smooth. :)
