First of all, huge thanks to Ultraling and Maverck for having done most of the work and making this campaign possible. Both of them were awesome about letting me use their stuff to put this thing together. These are originally Ultraling's maps, found here in sc2mapster. I picked them up a long time ago and slowly worked on them, editing terrain, adding all kinds of flavor here and there, including Maverck's Brood War mod, and this is the result.
Features
- all 10 original missions + the tutorial
- original SC1 units and structures with original stats, including custom models
- original SC1 Terran soundtrack
- all the dialogue, voice acting & other miscellaneous text from the original campaign
- classic unit decals, such as Alpha Squadron, Sons of Korhal etc.
"Artistic License"
(some notable differences from the original campaign)
- Medics - to balance out the units Brood War style, and to provide more options to the player
- extra "hero" abilities: Kerrigan has the snipe ability, Raynor can replenish Spider Mines
- Mission 4 "The Jacobs Installation" - third person mode (optional)
- two difficulty levels - with a somewhat more aggressive AI than in the original, in order to provide some challenge to the average player

How to play
- extract the mod file (SC1BWmod) to your "Mods" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (NOT the folder under "My Documents")
- extract the map pack to the "Maps" folder in your Starcraft 2 install directory (create the folder if it doesn't exist)
- extract the Campaign Launcher & setup to the same "Maps" folder (not the campaign folder)
Campaign Launcher installation:
- launch the Starcraft 2 editor
- open the setup map named SCMRsetup in your Maps folder and click the "test document" button on the top right (or press ctrl+F9)
- wait until the launcher loads and you're at the title screen, then save the game and exit the map (press esc or F10 to open the game menu)
- find the save file (named "Starcraft - Mass Recall" by default) in (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Saves/VersusAI
- copy or move the save file to the saves folder under your account folder (your home/documents folder)/Starcraft II/Accounts/.../.../Saves/Multiplayer (for example; any of the save folders will do)
- Done! You can now log into the appropriate account and load the save from the load game-screen. You can use this save to play each episode.
more info:
- You can copy the save file to whatever accounts you want. For example, if you want to play offline, copy it to your guest account folder.
- If you're unsure of the right folders or can't find the Starcraft II documents folder, log into an account of your choice in SC2, go to the load game-screen, click on a save and click the "show in folder"-button. It will take you to the appropriate saves folder.

@Telenil, okay i just feel you guys deserve to get as much recognition as much as those guys that made the RPG as well, i mean these maps are well done, and im sure its something Blizzard wouldn't have done, imagine putting all these maps on 2 CDs like the OG SC1 maps? im sure they would sell, and especailly if you guys added the cut missions from the Rebel Yell campaign, that were never used

Yes, they mentionned us in a Discussion Roundup and a Blizzard modeler has expressed knowledge of our work. I guess that the maps would receive a lot more coverage if they were on the Arcade, but unfortunately the mod is too large and the maps are too many to be put on the Arcade (at least 4 accounts would be necessary).

You are supposed to save at the campaign screen. Press F10 to display the menu.
Hey map makers. I have a problem - when I open the SCMRsetup, it loads and then shows a blank screen which just hangs there, not giving me any time to save at all. After that, it goes straight to loading the campaign screen. Any help?
@Telenil, does Blizzard know about your guyes work as well or that these remakes even exists?
Speaking only for myself, there is a project which has nothing to do with the remake that I want to talk about.
The biggest modding news in a long time is the kickstarter started by Starcraft Universe.
A dedicated group of gamers is creating a Starcraft RPG map on the Arcade, set in an alternative future where the Dark Voice wins. Their work includes a whole new engine, and character classes, achivements, and a character progression saved between every session. See the project trailer and the rest of their Kickstarter page for the full list of features.
Blizzard is supporting them, one of their voice actors is actually the one who made the voice of Tassadar in the 1998 Starcraft.
This project being on an even larger scale than Mass Recall, it is no surprise that these fellows are requesting donations. As with all Kickstarters, you get a full refund if the project doesn't get enough money. Either they get the $80.000 they need to switch to full time and finish the job, or you are given your money back. They have 18 days left out of 30, and they are currently around $41.000, so it's really something that can happen.
Jones and I don't take donations (not yet, anyway) but if you enjoyed the effort and dedication modders like us can put in their games, I encourage you to make the donation to those who need it.
More than the game itself, it is the first time in Starcraft history that a custom map becomes large enough for the modders to go full-time on it. Success on the kickstarter would give us a game, but it would also be a formidable encouragement to the modding community, as the proof that modding can grow into more than a hobby if you give enough time and dedication. If you have some money to spare and want to show your support, here you go!
Has anyone had a problem trying to install it? I open SCMRsetup in the Editor. I try Test Document, and SC opens and I have just enough time to see the minimap, commands, etc. with a black screen when it closes and SC2 says "Unable to open map." Any ideas how to remedy this? Thanks.
I'm a little late with this as usual, but a Korean translation by storycraft is now available, which, needless to say, is awesome. For the time being, you can find it on storycraft's website here.

It's possible, the question is the video quality. We'll see.
@Telenil
1. I remember a 'Dota' map during WoL Beta which just launched a rick roll video in the center of the screen, then it should be possible :)
2. Cool :) The best would be to have a difficulty which represents exactly the difficulty of the corresponding SC1 mission. 'Easy' should do it I think, even if it wasn't really always 'easy' ^^
can u give us video about the installation ? pls
Can anyone send me a save file from the beginning of the campaign. I cant open the editor.

1. We are still not sure if putting the cinematics is possible or not, this is a subject we are currently investigating. 2. The 2.0 update will include a lower "Easy" difficulty. The current easier will become Medium, and the current harder will become Hard. Don't hold your breath though, we won't be releasing anything before winter.
Very good mod, but i have two thing what you should make better: 1. Can you try also remake all cutscenes from sc1 to sc2 engine? Or at least import cutscenes from sc1 to this remake? 2. Even on easier difficuly i find this remake very hard , you know i am not some basement nerd who play sc2 like 15 hours so for me that difficulty is very frustrating, would be good to make some more easy difficulty so also casual gamer can enjoy that otherwise awesome remake.
Hi Telenil, Have you considered using the portraits of certain units (specifically the hero units such as Du Galle and Stukov) from the old classic StarCraft/BroodWar in your mod?
I played some of the missions in your mod and I noticed the portraits of the hero units do not represent the actual characters, in other words, the portrait for Stukov doesn't look anything like Stukov. I don't know whether the StarCraft 2 map editor provides portraits for classic characters such as Fenix, Duke or Stukov, but if it doesn't you could use the portraits from the first StarCraft. Sure, those portraits are low-res but still it'd be much much better to see a character like Du Galle represented by a portrait from the original game (which is canonic in the minds of all who played and enjoyed the original StarCraft) than a boring dummy portrait.
Apart from that, are you going to remake all of the cinematic cutscenes from the original game? That would be a very nice addition :)

If you're experiencing problems, try switching to Wings of Liberty mode in the Starcraft 2 gameplay options menu. If you're getting "unable to open map" errors when using the campaign launcher and your Starcraft 2 is up to date, chances are you don't have the necessary files in the right locations - read the instructions carefully.
i tried to open up the set up on map editior... but when the loading is done, the map froze and say that its unable to open the map... How do you fix this?
what else to say about the mod except great job, this was something the sc community was waiting for :D now, although im a ware its a massive job, i was wondering if you could ever alter the hero faces into something that is inspired by the original sc heroes? Like nothing over-the-top spot on HD replicas of original faces, more like adapting existing faces to resemble the original (some skinning perhaps) -for example completley shading zeratouls portrait and making his eyes yellow and thats it for him again aware of how difficult this can proove to be...
Fun, but damn hard. Also, for some reason the speed defaults to 'fastest' on every map. Not hard to change back to Normal or Fast but thought you should know.
This is kind of random, but in level 2 I encounted infested civilians shooting invisible guns. In videos of earlier builds of the mod these were infested marines. Is this change intended or a mistake?
@iong23:
Try this solution.
