"The Nerazim had experimented with the creation of their own Dragoons, but were unsuccessful both in recreating the technology that keeps the injured pilot alive and the link between the Protoss and the machine that results in quick reactions and perfect handling. In the end they have found their own way in a form of a Dark ritual and thus Stalkers were born. However when faced Amon, the Aiur Protoss shared their technology and thus the Nerazim could help to provide additional Dragoons from their materials based on their original Dark Dragoon prototypes. Pilots of these machines are mostly injured Nerazim warriors, with few Templar pilots added to the mix when no Dragoon or Immortal shells are currently available."

Functionally the Dark Dragoons match Aiur Dragoons and also share adapted variant of their upgrades.
