Boom Brothers
Boom Brothers is an abandoned Gauntlet/Bound project. You are a marauder mercenary that fires collision-based rockets; gameplay as such encompasses cover-based back-and-forth exchanges with the enemy in addition to traditional obstacle course affairs. The premise and major selling point is that instead of predetermined terrain from within the SC2 Map Editor, levels are designed by means of an in-game level editor, which store your creations as simple strings. Thus, the potential scope of the game extends well beyond conventional mapmaking, though it was never realized.
Implemented features (vs. originally planned features):
- Story Mode missions 1 and 2 (out of 40 total) - Playable Battle Mode prototype (very experimental PvP) - Robust Level Editor (but lacking an interface to save more than 1 level at a time)
Not functioning/not implemented:
- No Challenge Mode (defaults to Story Mode when selected) - No differing tilesets (8 or 9 were planned) - A dynamic powerup/weapon system (what's there is static and deprecated) - Countless enemies and objects that will never see the light of day
Boom Brothers is published on the US region. You likely won't see much of the game if you attempt it by yourself, but if you're having trouble type "-add" after the opening cinematic for a helpful little upgrade.
IN THE LEVEL EDITOR: Click the Level Browser button to save your level. Type -load to load your saved level. Type -load X to load level X. X can be from 1 to 25. This is every level, including some unused levels which utilize unused enemies and objects. So, that is my reward for having read this far!
