LifeForce Campaign by Bilxor
Oh boy. Resident mapper Bilxor has been working on something in relative secrecy for quite a while, and his project is about to hit the figurative streets. The LifeForce campaign aptly follows the story of the LifeForce Mercenary Corporation in an 8 map arc, complete with it's own in-game cinematics, unique portions of gameplay, and personally upgradable units. The campaign is set to go live today, so stay tuned in, as in a couple of hours, you will be able to give it a go. Find the map on the website in the link above.
Still not convinced? Check out the mission teaser Bilxor has released. And be on the look-out for a playthrough by Jayborino that will also be with us soon.
Played through the maps so released so far, you have done an extremely good job! Best of luck onward, will be monitoring closely :)
This is awesome! Very nice terraining and triggering. It is very well polished. Like... add never seen before doodads, voice acting, high resolution cutscene and custom music, and you got a campaign looking as good as blizzard's one.
Keep up the good work. I took a look at the website and read that you want to make this a job proves how much you like doing that and want to do it very well.
I wish I had a little bit more time to do some terraining work with you. I'm kind of already engaged into different projects that I'm already not as active as I wish to be. But if you need any kind of support, suggestions, ideas, rought feedback for improvement, etc just ask. I also got skype if you wish.
I'm currently playing through the missions and Mission 2 need a little bit of tweaking at the end. There is an endless number of mule that spawn periodicly so if you hang out too long, it litterally get overwhelming and impossible to win. I though they would stop spawning after killing a bunch, but no... it's endless and i was not able to overcome the spawn rate which snowballed out of control. This is a balance / trigger issue as it should not spawn endlessly.
Mission 3 is great... but there are a few things you did not warn the player, a big issue is the Warrior Bug jumping cliffs, no where it says or shows that it can do that. So you are focussing on your base to defend with all your troups while pushing your tanks uphill as far as possible and suddenly, warrior bug shows up and kill all your tanks and you lose. No! I don't mind that they do that, but I mind about getting warned for it! (Actually it does it once at the beginning, but there is no emphasis on that ability) Another thing, you have some awesome ability techtree before eatch mission, but you can't use it because you have to research all the upgrades over and over again, it takes alot of time (which you do not have) and money (which you do not have because of the very little amount of mineral patches and the overall cost of the units; a single siege tank cost 600 minerals) so... you want the player to defend the siege tank with enough stuff to kill Warrior bugs at eatch spots while defending while getting your economy up while getting upgrade? It's too much at once, not in term of apm, in term of game mechanic, the economy is way not enough for all that is required. A little more glimpse about where are the spots where hides the units and maybe more mineral pallets and 1-2 mineral field more could help a bit. I was floating gas, but way not enough minerals. Oh and note: you start supply blocked which is kinda annoying and even more slowing your eco.
I replayed it taking into consideration the Warrior Bug and built all my defense to the end. I survived fooorreevverr took an hour before the boss shows up? Come 'on. Once the hard part is done, setting up the defense and overcoming any amount of unit, it's just boring and new waves starts and new waves starts... like there could be 5 waves max and not something like 8 or 9.. The boss bugged out as well as some units that spawn small units. And in order to win you have to kill absolutly everything, and not just the boss. So here I'll give you my save file to where i was at. What should I do at that point? Well, I waited and waited until no more waves and kill all the units that spawned stuff then regrouped everything around the boss, then i won... I think there is some tweaking here to do ;)
Oh also, in case it's unclear, gameplay video, campaign download, and full site at: http://lifeforcecampaign.com
Nice :)
Looking forward to more on the scenario !
