Projects with no activity over a period of six months are automatically marked as abandoned.
To mark a project unabandonded, simply go to the Actions drop-down, and select Unabandon project, check the Confirm box and click Mark Project as Unabandoned.
Will authors be warned by email before their projects are marked as abandoned? There needs to be a way for authors to indicate an addon still works without having to upload a file or edit something.
I'd really appreciate it if there was a different way to flag abandoned and BROKEN addons. AutoprofitX, can't find it on either site, works to this day and the last time it was updated was in April. I had to pull a copy off my fiance's computer because it could not be found. Perhaps a user based "flag this addon" could be used to alert others of addons that no longer function. I don't care about having the "out of date addons" checked, if anyone remembers wowtoc.exe, even running that was a non issue.
My project (Wishlist) was abandoned but I picked it up, updated most of the stuff to be compatible with WotLK again, but also added some nice features. WowAce shows the new rXX builds but Curse isn't using any new builds (tagged one of the versions as release)
The main problem I see with auto-abandon is that it seems like for curse, abandoned means free to be picked up by others, at least in some way. There should be a difference between "no longer under development" and "abandoned aka free to pick up".
I think if you update TOCs, you tell your users the addon works in this new version too. If not, they'll be in doubt. Having Load out-of-date addons checkbox selected is a bad habit, because all this version-maching mechanic will be hidden from this user. Yes, I'd like to see more to choose from (like "warn on out of date addons"), but in the end users have to know whether their addons are outdated or tested against the latest version.
when mine was marked as abandoned it did disappear from Curse
I disagree with the massive mail-out that reminded all the authors to update their TOCs. TOC updates by themselves are next to useless to our users, and it confused alot of people in my guild when they thought their addons were actually properly updated and working.
Aside from being visibly marked as Abandoned, what are effects come into play here? Does Curse (and CurseClient) syndication cease? Is it actually hidden from Curse visibility entirely?
This is an optimal way to do it.
If anyone else want's to take up the mantle and continue a given addon, then that is also easier with this change.
If addons become obsolete, then that's just that. Who should go in and update tocs? If someone wants to do this, they can become authors.
That I agree with, I really think addons should be kept up to date that way and users not expected to keep the load out of date addons checked. That was what I was trying to say by the check of inactivity being from a patch that changed the toc.
I agree that a better solution needs to be found, but addons that have a 2.x toc need to have their toc's updated to 3.x if they still work IMO.
I agree. Many addons doesn't even need to be updated for most patches.
may be a bit better to mark if no update for some time after a toc change patch. I would say some addons just don't need activity once they are stable.
