New Theme by Profet
Profet from sc2galaxy.net (french) worked hard on the new Mapster design. Before releasing it to all of you, we would like to make a beta test. If you want to get a preview of the new theme just click the "Switch" button in the following links:
If you see glitches with the new theme, please report them in the comments!
Thanks :)
I like it, but as said already, the orange stripes are kind of offensive to the eyes. Darkening it will probably be enough, or perhaps change it completely to be more subtle like the current background.
Hey guys just wanted to make sure people know that the theme system is completely open for use experimentation. And the current blue one will be available for use in the future.
www.sc2mapster.com/themes/
You can see the many themes there including the current official one, and the new one that profet has been working on.
It's completely possible for any of you to go to that page and start your own. It uses an older version of sass to power it so it's not quiet the same as css, but isn't that hard to learn, and you can see the source of the other skins to see how things are done.
I for one, would love to see some awesome race themed skins.
The background texture is sort of annoying. The forum avatars are still way too huge. They should be 100x100 at most.
:(
I feel like none of the feedback given a month ago was taken into consideration. Shame.
I prefer the old because it scrolls faster.
It is too dark and those weird stripes are just plain weird.
Where did the create a new project link at the homepage go? It was still on Announcement/Polls page though.
If you go to your project forum the symbol and hierarchy path with collide with the navigation buttons on the top. ie. overview, files, ect.... see here:

EDIT: love the theme =)
EDIT 2: Same rings true for the "Pages" tab on your team Pages.
First off, for those who keep bringing it up - the random foreign text is called "Lorem Ipsum" and it is a tool used by web designers/developers to fill in blank space and emulate content for design approval processes. Imagine that the text is real, pertinent information and then comment on the look and feel of the text - not what the text actually says.
Second off I'm going to apologize to the person who made the new theme, because I'm not going to hold back. I hope that you can see this as constructive criticism as that is all I intend it to be.
Now that I've got that out of the way, I have come to realize that there is a very basic issue with the new theme. Everything takes up too much space. The vertical spacing is not good. There is no reason to have the 50-75px between a news posting and the comment form box, and likewise the horizontal space is poorly utilized. Just look at all the wasted space between site elements. In addition some of the heading styles are pretty bulky and probably need to be scaled down. As for the text, is it just me is all of the text semi-bold? Overall everything is too bulky and has about twice as much padding as it needs.
The color scheme makes the site feel more like Diablo or WoW Cataclysm instead of Starcraft. I wasn't a huge fan of the blue theme, but it has a much cleaner look in comparison. If you're wanting to mimic the current SC2 site pallet, you should use dark blue for primary focus items, blacks and grays as the background, and orange accents. Instead we have all orange and black. (jokingly) It's like Halloween came early this year.
From reading other responses, it seems like there was an emphasis on looking similar to Curse. Sure Curse may have pulled off the orange scheme very well, and sure Curse may be a successful gaming resource but that doesn't mean sc2Mapster needs to emulate Curse. Instead focus on content delivery and site features.
Personally I think adjusting the spacing will solve a lot of the issues and may provide a fresher perspective for critics. Right now it just makes isolating potential design "flaws" too easy since everything floats around by itself and nothing meshes.
I don't mean to criticize harshly, but since I frequent this site I am highly in opposition of this new theme. Sorry designer, it's nothing personal. I work for a web design/application firm so I have been trained to look for these things. Again, please take what I say as constructive and not demeaning.
gotta be honest, don't like the new theme at all... hopefully we will be able to continue to use the current theme.
The orange stripes in the background make it difficult to read the orange text/links, like the "Mark as read" link at the top of the forums.
Generally, I like it :]
I completely agree with QueenGambit and others on what they have said about the theming. I mean no offense to the new theme or to its designer, but if you want something that's going to be more integrated with the whole "Curse" aesthetic, you're going to have to offer something that manages to balance that with what we have already, i.e. doesn't detract for the whole "Starcraft" aesthetic, which should definitely be primary.
Unlike the current theme, it doesn't feel very 'StarCrafty'. And those 90*degree lines everywhere, i hate them. It would be - in my opinion - downgrading, to go with this theme.
I prefer the old theme, easier on the eyes and really works with the starcraft 2 main theme, the orange just looks like an old hive workshop rehash and really isn't appealing to look at : /
Whoops, good catch programmer. Thanks.
Got a glitch with square profile image that went out of visible area. For example here :
http://www.sc2mapster.com/profiles/vjeux/ Chrome 5.0. Maybe just me
Sc2mapster = Curse
if you use this theme
I really prefer the current theme. The dark colors are not only appealing, but make it very easy on the eyes.
@QueenGambit: Checkout this page http://www.sc2mapster.com/themes/
@Sixen/Nevir: Ah, excellent. Thanks.
I guess I'm ambivalent. The site looks good now, but I think the upcoming style is good, too.
