Starcraft Universe
A lot of you probably remember Starcraft Universe. For those who don't, the game is a huge multiplayer online RPG that focuses on story, combat, and multiplayer raiding.
With Blizzard's blessing, the team has decided to launch a kickstarter campaign to raise money for the project. Watch the video below!
If you want to support the project, you can donate to the kickstarter here. If you're not feeling like donating, you can still help the project immensely by spreading the word and sharing the link with as many people as possible; the more popular the project gets on kickstarter, the more exposure it will get, and the more people will donate. If you feel like discussing the project, or you want to see the original trailer, you can check out the project thread here.

Player can upload mod files on multiple accounts. That's 150 Mb per team member willing to upload a mod file. Your map can rely on a mod file published by a different user.
Not a WoW player, I'm usually in melee 1v1 when it comes to playing but this is a project worth trying even by me. Excellent video presentation, the game seems like a lot of effort is put and like some wanted to see some real project, as in something serious, that is one of it (with Diablo map too). Good luck with that and getting the funds and support you need.
How are you going to fit all of this in the 150MB of space each user has available?
I hope this is hugely successful, is anything great for everyone else mappin gin SC2.
The video was on point done perfectly with the kickstarter formula. You just barely had enough credibility and content / story to make it seem like a heavy enough project worth investing in. I will agree that some of the large goals seem excessive, all things considered. This is overall a very good thing for the map making community though, and I think 80k is reasonable if you end up delivering. I won't be donating, but I'll definitely check it out when it's done. Good luck.
Well Ryan does seem to have his heart in the right place. I do hope it goes well for you. Your resourcefulness and what you managed to accomplish with SCU does surprise me, and you do certainly have my respect and praise in that regard. Good-luck to you, Mille25, and the rest of the team.
For everyone who couldnt make it, here is a complete writeup of all serious questions asked on Reddit:

I think this is great! Best of luck on reaching your goal and reaching some stretch goals!
If you look someone donated $2,500 so I guess the higher prices aren't so unrealistic.
If you guys have any questions Ryan is doing an AMA on Reddit right now.

@Eternal Wraith
Don't think that if we get significant funds we won't be coming back here to contract some of you guys. Why do you think I put SC2Mapster on every single one of our videos.
Mapster community is a big part of what made this happen and I have not forgotten that.
Much love.
Wow, clearly we've got some controversy in the comments :P
I newsed this, so I suppose I should address it. If this campaign is successful, it draws attention and credibility to the mapping scene. We really need both of those things. As I said in the post, if you don't feel like donating, that's perfectly acceptable. But sharing the link with as many people as possible will help the project succeed, and if it succeeds, the mapping scene is benefiting from it.
To those saying the goals are too high- game development is very expensive if you want an entire team working full-time. If they can't work another job because they're spending all day on this project, they need to money to keep the lights on. So yes, $80k is a ludicrously high cost for a project where people are not working full time. But to pay a full-time staff, it's not that crazy.
I doubt they're expecting to reach $1,000,000, but if people actually donated that much, they might as well use the money. Which is why it's a stretch goal. It's the same reason there's a reward for an $8k donation- the chances of somebody donating that much are basically 0, but if somebody did want to donate that much, you might as well give them a reward for it. It's not like they're going to take the money and buy a Ferrari.

Did you just say Run-of-the-mill mod? It's unfortunate that a few individuals aren't willing to give us a chance. I know you said you have tried the game but its clear your mind was made up before you clicked start.
This is the biggest SC2 project currently going. Many mods and conversions have been backed by fans before. Kickstarter is just more public.
It seems we are well on our way to the goal at this rate. Hopefully you'll reconsider the game when it's finished.
Didn't MineralZ also ask for a ton of money and failed?
If they were actually able to do a full total conversion of SC2, I'd probably say this is justified. But this is just your average run-of-the-mill mod. Not to mention from that pre-release Map, I'd say the controls are just about as awful as they can get.
I find it kind of ridiculous to ask for these sums of money for a mod.
And if you quit your day job over this and hope that Blizzard gets off their ass and releases the Market Place to sell classes, packs or anything really, you are going to have a really bad time. With Allstars moved to F2P MOBA, they have no good reason to invest heavily into the market place.
2 Months to make a class. I think you gotta update your workflow and pipeline.

The purpose of stretch goals are to let people people who'd like to back a project after it's reached it's goal know that they do indeed have ways to use additional funding and that it wouldn't be for nothing. Also existing engines are used in AAA games as well. Half Life 1 used the quake engine for example. Many games use unity and unreal these days. Devs pay a price for them, but there are still multi-million dollar projects that don't have their own engines.
@EternalWraith: Go It isn't greedy if you think its okay for them to have map making as their full-time job.
But I wouldn't contribute. If I must have a job myself and try to work on maps in my free time, am I expected to give some of my money so that other people can quit thier jobs to work on maps?
I'm not saying the project doesn't deserve support, my point is that people from mapster have to reason at all to give their money. Expect money from players, not developers.

@VindicatorDotDalles:
Thank you very much for your support! :)
@EternalWraith
Its really not greedy at all. As an example, developing a new class for SCU takes about two months. Remember each class has 30 unique spells which are fully custom scripted, requires tons of gear items to be created and also needs at least 5 fully custom models for its relic aspects. In addition the class needs to be integrated into the games lore to make sense.
After implementation, all this needs to be tested for bugs and especially balance, which takes a long time.
A team working full-time for two months will eat 20.000$ quite fast.
@FenixKissKerrigan
Did you even take a look at the video or the Kickstarter page? :(
i agree, what in god's name do you need 1 million for?
Good luck with it. Further Stretch goals seems ridiculously greedy though?. I dont know. The entire Sc2 game engine is already built up.
Yeah guys, he's right, just watching their promo video and sharing the project on your facebook page can help them out a lot, even if you don't have a few bucks to spare. It'll raise their popularity on kickstarter (which they are already ranked #7 in the video games category atm) which is calculated weekly. This in turn ends up having a ton of people in the kickstarter community, likely outside of the SC2 community, see the project, some of which will definitely back it.
