Hi Everyone,
Today we launch our new store! This is the first in a series of releases that will revamp the whole of CurseForge and all the sites powered by it. Through this we'll be modernizing the layout and style of the sites as well as addressing the long standing concerns many of our authors have had.
It's important to know that many actions related to points need to be completed from within the new store. Purchasing points, viewing your totals and history, as well as transferring points to other users. Project reward splits are still configured on the current site.
Below you'll find a nice screenshot of the general layout of the new store. We already have a list of improvements for the next iteration. You have my word that they'll be here soon, but please give us your feedback as well. We'd love to know what you guys think.
The new store can be found at store.curseforge.com.
Nice thing!
Would have been nice if the point calculation had not dropped by over 50% in the past 3 months...
Seems like Kaelten has 1398 points. :P
Still no amazon.fr cards :s
I hope you'll catch most reported bugs. By the way, some kind of "report bug" link or button on the curse addon page (like, right below download/install) would be awesome.
No Amazon.ca Gift Cards? :P
Wait... we have a store?
The new store is completely unusable in Opera (12.x, not the 15.x garbage that's just a reskinned Chrome). Upon loading the page, it displays a popup asking if I want to change my username. If I click No, it adds a red error message saying "This field is required". The only field I can see the one to type a new username into; I tried typing the same username into that box and clicking Yes, but it just gave me the same error. There is no way to hide the popup, and it blocks interaction with everything else on the page.
These mysterious "This field is required" errors have been a recurring problem on Curse.com for a long time. I used to be unable to reply to PMs on Curse, or post on the Curse support site, because despite every visible field having text in it, it would give me that error. This was fixed (about a year ago?) but it seems whoever wrote the new store code is still using some ancient codebase full of browser sniffing hacks. Why does a simple HTML form submission need browser-specific (or any) scripting, anyway? Use the "required" attribute added in HTML5 on required fields, and do any custom validation server-side where it should be done.
Additionally, the page hijacks all keyboard input, preventing me from using anything other than OS-level keyboard shortcuts, eg. I can't Ctrl+W to close the tab, Ctrl+Tab to switch tabs, etc. but I can Alt+Tab to another application, or Win+D to minimize all applications. In order to carry on using my browser I have to use the mouse to click to close the tab. I've never had this problem on any other website I've ever visited since the invention of JavaScript. Please fix. :(
Edit:
Oh, and I'd like to second the request of a previous poster to show my current points total on my CurseForge/WowAce homepage, so I don't have to click over to some other site (and log in again) to check on it.
Edit #2:
Also, I'm slightly confused and/or concerned about the plethora of social network type features I'm seeing on the new site (after disabling JavaScript for the store.curse.com domain it seems to be working okay, though I haven't tried to spend any points). Why are there nicknames, "invisible" modes, unlockable titles, etc.? If I wanted to be part of a social network I'd go join Facebook. >_<
They do it on the 4th of every month afaik.
How long do we have to wait for you to execute an order? It's been 3 days since then and I didn't get anything yet.
Fair enough!
So the forums will become independent of each other?
How will the WoWAce site be affected by the revamp? Will it use the same-ish design as Curseforge? And current the forums don't really look similar, and also rather different from the rest of the respective site. Are the forum designs going to change in any way? Don't really have any complaint about the current design, for that matter.
@Lombra: Go
The store is but a taste of what's to come. You are correct in hoping for "slick" new looks. ;)
As for the WowAce vs CurseForge thing, that's a matter of perspective. WowAce as a community predates the rest of CurseForge, and part of the original setup for WowAce has always been strict guidelines, a community focused approach, and only allowing contributions via repositories, not file uploads.
Could we merge them? Sure. Will we? Perhaps one day, but there are no plans to do so. We really don't want to disturb our communities just to make things a little neater.
As far as the forums are concerned, I hear ya. That is one of the things we'll be fixing as well. Some of the forums are currently shared between CF and WowAce, and won't be once we migrate those to the new stack.
Looks great! I always thought Curseforge looked rather dull. Looking forward to the overhaul. Hope it'll be more in line with the slick looks of Curse. (while not making it more confusing by adding cool stuff just for the hell of it)
I don't suppose this will do away with the whole Curseforge vs. WoWAce disparity? It feels kind of pointless. As far as I've understood it all boils down to a few arbitrary requirements of better following good practices for qualifying for using WoWAce. Why "separate" authors based on their coding experience? The two forums are rather confusing also. Actually the WoWAce forum I understand, because I use it. But the Curseforge forum? Some subforums seems to be directly linked to the WoWAce forum, while others are exclusive to Curseforge, which no one seems to use.
Just my two heavy cents. Probably not the ideal place for for this kind of discussion, just thought it would be a good time to look at things of such magnitude when doing an overhaul!
Is there the possibility of showing points on your profile, like the previous system did?
Other than that, looks like a nice way to unify all of the stores for the various communities, and provides a little more information than it did before on each product.
Its very nice.... Just need to generate more points.
Love it!
Can you even get points with sc2mapster?
Glad to see the revamp! It looks good and is a lot more functional now. I find it will be easier to use.
Loved it:)
Very bad! JavaScript is now required to use the store and to view transactions. Please fix this bug as soon as possible.
Like It!
Will give info about all things in store!
