Haha yeah I had to add the crow for good effect =P. You're right, the terrain in the BG is a bit shottily done and could use a lot more of the sand brush to differentiate it; I'll definitely fix that in a bit when I have time. I think the roof looks as if its angled just due to the angle of the pictures, to my knowledge it's straight—I think my camera shots were just deceiving >.<! As for the roof, it would probably look more realistic as gray, but I wanted to add a bit of contrast instead of everything taking on dull colors.
The reason the structure is clipping into the mountain was an attempt to make it look as if winds had shifted the dirt onto the roof, as to whether or not I was able to achieve that look is now up to debate haha.
I attached a photo to try and make sense of the pipes. I probably could have given a better camera angle to illustrate what I was going for in my original post, or maybe its too elaborate (lemme know!!).
I was planning on reworking what I had and posting a couple days ago but I never had the time, but thank you for the tips. Those are all valid points, especially the volcano—I was attempting a sort of ring effect but it doesn't look particularly natural. (Sorry for the tiny response to your big post!)
Wow, thank you—that means a lot. And now I feel like I'll never be able to do anything better, thanks =P! haha. Yeah I have no doubt in my mind that those fence posts would be completely melted by the lava, so I could probably move the dirt in a little to make it look a little bit more realistic. I added a screenshot of a more flooded look and moved it up more than +0.3 (I didn't know how flooded you wanted it to appear). I'll definitely continue more WTE's—it has turned into a point in the week where I can just chill, relax, listen to music, and just concentrate on something other than school.
I agree, there could be some more detail around the mine site especially when it comes to people (there actually is one guy sitting in the control tower, but he's really hard to see). Adding a darker rock layer would probably make it more realistic, but I didn't want to introduce too much "stuff" in the middle; whether or not that holds true here I'll probably just leave it as is for now and maybe fix it in the future. I tried not make any mountains because I tend to overdue that sort of terrain formation in most of my terrains and I wanted it to have a clean look to it for a change. And yes, your advice is definitely helpful lol, I appreciate it and hope you'll continue to give it.
Lookin' good so far! I like that rock-face on the left side and the subtle crow sitting on the log, it adds some liveliness to the picture. I also like that your eyes are brought up to the stone structure through that non-linear, curvy path. Though I agree with Sc, I would like to see some different camera angle shots to see what's happening elsewhere if that's possible.
Yeah I'v tried to make them smaller, but if I try and make them less thick they won't extend as far since they're just stretched out solar panels. Wish I knew of a way to put in lasers and have them show in the editor.
Thanks for the feedback Nebuli, I agree the cliffs definitely needed some work but I also want to keep it sorta close to Halo. In the process of trying to fit my bridge into a massive cliff the textures went a little wacko >.< . I decided to do some give-and-take with what you suggested and I think it at least looks a little better this way, as I was able to remove some of the monotony of the cliff face. The gray fog should be more even now, but I don't want to add too much or else the ground can't be seen.
There are no custom models in this map. Everything used is directly from the editor, it's just been rigged to Hell and back =P.
The energy beams are actually the Rooftop Solar Panels doodad with the HDR turned up to 13, the color changed to light blue, and the proportions being (X: 10, Y: 500, Z: 500). I miss Halo too haha, 4v4 CTF lans were way too much fun. (And thank you for welcoming me to SC2Mapster in the last WTE.)
I actually had just added the second beam before you posted >.<! But then again I'm not entirely sure it adds that much more lol, so judge it as you may. I'm glad you enjoyed the bridge :D, I'v played your map and it's pretty interesting (I'm actually trying to get a friend to play it to improve his use of control groups and macro) and hopefully in a little while or so I'll have time to post some constructive feedback on it.

Hey again guys, so here's my try-hard attempt at making a frozen bridge from Halo: Combat Evolved found during the Assault on the Control Room campaign level.
The nostalgia note made me think of back in the day when Halo came out, and this was the first thing that popped into my mind. I also added a photo on the left for a reference:
Yeah I definitely agree the mountains needed some work, this time I tried to spiffy it up a little bit—making them look a little bit more incorporated into the story like you suggested (adding the background waterfall & pool, a new blue skybox, and adding the walk-way at the right) as well as trying to redo the peaks.
The middle was also quickly done, so instead of making it look particularly protoss-esque I decided to make it more of a thick spire with a colored brazier at the top. Hopefully the bridge entrance also looks a bit more ambitious, I tried to give it a more "structured" feel than the bland one I had before and redid the water so it has a little less funk.
Thanks a lot for the reply, it was really helpful—hopefully you like this version better!
(And sorry if it's hard to tell what's going on in some parts, I tried to rotate it to the most attractive angle!)

Howdy! Here's my submission. It's supposed to represent a bandit compound nestled near a high point in the desert.
The environment could probably use some windy effects of some sort, I realized, but I left it as is for now.

Sorry for the delayed response, but life has kept me busy as of late =P.

Those are ground props like Nebuli said =P.

That actually sounds pretty neat, I'll definitely consider it; do you think people would use it (given its not half-assed)?

Hello gents!
Here's my version of a lava jungle; I added a mining operation on the volcano since making structures is my favorite part of terraining =X.

Too long haha—Probably around 3-4 hours on the bridge alone. But I guess that also includes the design process.

Hi guys, I'm new to the SC2Mapster / terrainer community and a friend suggested I come here for practice and feedback so here's my first attempt!
