Hey lads, I have a question about changing textures
Alright so in the past we could go into the data editor and change the textures a map uses by simply changing the data values. We can still do that, but as of LotV, you can't paint the new textures you've added because, I assume, the editor now places every texture when you make a map.
And you can't edit the data of a map before you make the map. I don't want to use texture sets because that's wasteful - since I plan on using them for other things.
Edit: Solution - Restart the editor. What a waste of time, that takes whole seconds!
Edit 2: Follow up question - does anyone know of any big and deep round terran doodads? Something like a spaceship engine that *isn't* on would be ideal.
It is possible to do some trickery and simulate a 512*512 world by changing the texuvset (in the console) and downscaling all units and doodads. Buildings will still have their larger grid though.
Your terrain has made me realize how much populated Aiur from LotV actually looks like a civilization from Star Trek. The smooth buildings and pathways with only planned green, combined with an unnatural colour palette and weird sci-fi lights... feels like it's straight out of an episode of Voyager.
I was planning to play a game of the fancy new coop mode (BLIZZARD MORE MISSIONS PLZ) but instead i tried to make something nice with all these cool enviro doodads based blizzard gave us.
The biggest problem I have with the Aiur tileset is that the dirt looks terrible. I hope you guys don't mind if I replace it with something more palatable.
They changed the ways textures work in lotv, and it's annoying a lot of the time. I have a hunch on how to return to wol style painting, but I can't check yet because I'm busy and... well, meant to be sleeping. I'll get back to you eventually.
Anyway the Aiur tileset was unusable because of issue above, so I decided to use Shakuras instead. All the textures have the same problem (tried WoL map though, textures blended perfectly), but the effect was less problematic on shakuras. I believe we may have encountered this same thing with Mar Sara back in HotS, but whatever. The new doodads, especially the grass, are cool. When I get more time I will make better maps with lots of grass, vines and stone.
Hell, maybe I'll go back to that overgrown lab I made a year or two ago and grass it up.

Have you tried a pathing blocker doodad?

The Mac editor has been super buggy, period. I had to stop using it like a day after I installed SC on my Mac... in 2010.

Yeah but I meant if you had HotS could you use LotV assets if you didn't own it. Answer is yes!
