I don't know about you guys, but my 2 uploaded projects seems to be messed up in the lobby when I create a game... The teams variants seems to be locked to what I've set in the editor (which is normal) but the lobby menu shows all team settings (2 teams, 3 teams, FFA, 4 teams,... and so on). It seems like almost anything in the lobby is just messed up (or at least it shows as if it was, even if the settings work as they should).

This is definitely not going to help me like the lobby system...

Well, there are ways that the dragon could also survive, but the point is that the knight had a 100% chance while the dragon didn't.

The dragon always survive, whatever happens:
Poison #5 before the duel + any poison during the duel + poison #6 after the duel = safe
Poison #5 before the duel + clean water during the duel + poison #6 after the duel = safe

posted a message on Is there a way to return players names?
    Quote from zeldarules28: Go

:D I actually put that into the map but couldn't get it to work. lol

I'm pretty sure you can't get the player's name because "if picked player" refers to the NUMBER of the player, not his actual name. Players are identified as numbers in a list of 16 slots, the string which includes a player name must be stocked elsewhere but I don't know where exactly. If only we could know which value is modified when we change a player name in the editor (in the players preferences), we should probably get it and use it in a trigger.

When I try a game called Lord of the Rings, I do not expect something dedicated to the movie

    ...LOL.

    Quote:

If I had the lost the "war", and it is sad that you think this is a "war", then the map would
have a different name. As far as I know the map is still called Dungeon
    Keeper.

Not anymore... So we were only a few to give the advice but we were right, weren't we? The voice of majority just tells you to remain a sheep in the flock, I personally think it doesn't serve your purpose. Keeping the name implies being amongst the few maps that nobody will ever care about because there are already "monsters" in place. If your project is different from those "monsters", name it otherwise. Pretty simple for anyone to understand and I'm glad you did.

    Quote from redmarine: Go

People arguing about its name should be banned from this site

Yeah... Actually, let's ban everyone who disagree with someone. They are so evil. Burn the witches!
Oh wait... Aren't we all witches?

    Quote from Szei: Go

Ah haha. Ok. I WILL test this map. Oh wait! Does that mean he's won the
war now? Or is it a tie? And oh my! This is a war in the first place!
And to think you said Pottfish was making a big deal out of it.

"War" is just a word here. My point being that he shouldn't deny every advice given because it could only end in one way: he'll get flamed. And a few members in the forums will probably disagree with each other, in the process. "War" is a strong word but the idea is still here though...

    Quote:

How is that disrespect? He's not saying,
"My map is going to be better than your map!"

The name of his map was confusing for 2 reasons:
    - it could be mistaken for the original game (Dungeon Keeper)
    - it could be mistaken for the SC2 mod (Hive Keeper)
Keeping the same name despite all the advices which went against the idea is just like saying "I don't care about what the others did, I don't care about your advices, because my map has nothing to do with them anyway". Don't tell me you don't see what's wrong with that...

    Quote:

If you feel your advice is valid and Pottfish still will not take it, then forget about
it. You tried to help him and he refused. No need to pursue the matter.

    Fair enough. ;)
By the way, I would probably have tested his map anyway if I were in NA.

    Quote from Zsteven44: Go

I can't believe these dudes. So the guy named his map "Dungeon Keeper," what is the big deal?? There is another mod called "Hive Keeper," so what? There are like 15 mods called Zombie Survival/Defence and I see one at the top of the popularity list from time to time.

15 maps with the same kind of name just proves lack of creativity. One of them being on top of the popularity list doesn't mean anything but map being boosted. What's wrong with having the same name is that you are amongst X other maps, mostly low quality maps by the way, so BNet users won't even care about yours.

    Quote from SouLCarveRR: Go

if people with under 500 posts flame you just ignor them =)

High number of posts never was a proof of cleverness and/or kindness. I know I get offended pretty easily by a few things, but it doesn't mean my advices are shit, and it doesn't mean I'm trolling either. As far as I know, I've given feedback and helped a lot of people here since I subscribed (and before that, on other forums), even if I use my own words and can be rough sometimes I don't think I've been such a nuisance so far with barely 200+ posts...

    What about WASD?

I'm downloading patch 1.2 right now, but from what I've seen lately on Ikari Warriors (on BNet) the keyboard movements did not lag that much in 1.13... It was totally playable already, assuming you're not using bandwidth for anything else than the game. I also have lots of periodic triggers which were all working correctly without increasing the lag in keyboard movements. I assume 1.2 manages keyboard movement a bit better now, but we'll sooner or later reach a point where we can't boost performance anymore (if it's not the case aready).

    Quote from yukaboy: Go

DUDE, YOU HAVE THE KNIGHT WRONG!
WELL 2-6 water cures!!! It's not JUST 6!!!

    I know that.
But already poisoned before the duel with #1 + clean water from the dragon = he dies from poisoning himself before the duel.
It was never specified in the story that they drink more than twice before dying from the poison effects, so... Dragon lives anyway, knight might die.
It was never specified either that they can know if they drunk poison or clean water, so they can't tell if they are still poisoned or not. Knight is in deep shit.

If the dragon knows the knight will poison himself to be sure to counter any poison from the duel, the only thing the dragon has to do is to bring clean water.
The solution assuming the dragon will bring #6 and the knight will bring clean water is not the end of the story, it doesn't think further than one move in advance of each other's opponent. It's like playing chess, you can't win just by anticipating what your opponent will do next turn, you need to think ahead of it. So the story is either incomplete (about the delay you have when poisoned), or impossible to solve 100% (too many possibilities and odds), or the answer is "dragon lives and knight dies" (the only conclusion I can think of).

I have been trying to discover the logic behind all this complaining but I cannot.

I'll make it easier for you:

-the name of your map sounds like the old game, thus most players will expect a clone of it and/or the same overall quality... you said yourself it was not your goal, so the only feedback you'll get (if any) for a map that doesn't fit people's expectations will be "your map sucks". We were trying to warn you, you fought against it, and now you've lost the battle.

-the idea is already taken... there are lots of other ideas available, so if your goal is just to improve your skills with the editor just pick anything but this one... Have some respect for the people already working on it and stop arguing about it when we're warning you, it happens and you shouldn't make such a big deal out of it. You lost a battle here too.

-trying to play tough against an entire community won't serve your purpose. Good job, you lost the war. Proof:

Seems like the answer which is 100% sure is that the dragon can't die. Whatever water is brought by the knight, it doesn't matter: the poison taken by the dragon before the duel is still #1 and the poison after the duel is still #6, so he is safe anyway. The knight is only safe if the dragon serves him #6 poison to counter the #1 taken before the duel...

You mean they both drink at the same time, and they drink water from the opponent first?

posted a message on A riddle

It all depends on who drinks first.

    The dragon:
-will most likely use the water from well 6, because the knight doesn't have any water able to cure its poison.
-will ask the knight to drink water 6 first, so that the poison could not cured by any water the knight brought.
-won't bring clean water because it would either result in both duelists dying from poisoning, or both still alive if the knight brought clean water.
-won't bring water from wells 1-5 because it increases the odds of both dying, or both alive, or the knight being cured.
-will die anyway if he drinks his water (from well 6) first.

    The knight:
-will most likely use the water from well 1, because this is the safest water to drink.
-will ask to drink his own water first, to be sure the poison is cured by the water brought by the dragon.
-will die if the dragon brings clean water to trick the knight.
-won't bring clean water because they would both die, or survive if the dragon brought clean water too.
-will die anyway if he doesn't drink his water (from well 1) first.

posted a message on Which games are you looking forward to this year?

It took me ages to remember and find the name of that game, but I hope it will come out in 2011 since the development started last year:

    Renaissance (by Cyanide Studios)

There isn't much info yet, but from what I've read and seen on Gamekult, it looks very promising. I also just noticed there will be a new Neverwinter game (named "Neverwinter", how original!) that should be out this year. It seems to be a MMO though...

Oh, and by the way... *rolling drums*

LOTR Conquest was kind of boring, I hope this one is better. :)

    @MotiveMe: Go

Yes, non-beneficial advertising is forbidden. I didn't search for the EULA thoroughly but since I know how these things work, I assume without taking much risk that both non-beneficial and beneficial advertising are forbidden. I already explained why in my first post here:

    Quote:

Advertisement in your map is obviously strictly forbidden, as it is an indirect way to make profit, using Blizzard's material.

This is a common rule which applies to any entertainment material (music, games, movies and series, etc...). You can't make profit out of someone else business without their explicit consent (ie. a contract is signed by both parties). You don't need to be a lawyer to understand this, it is mostly common sense. :)

I'm not being hypocritical. I said your map name is confusing because another project exists, and the game from Bullfrog existed before that. The name of your map is obviously deceiving people because they either expect the Hive Keeper mod or a Dungeon Keeper remake. I don't need to test your map to be sure about that. You should listen to FuzzYD.

Whether you decide to keep working on your map or not, you'll probably just get people angry at you. As someone stated above, lots of them will expect to find a clone of Dungeon Keeper just because of the name (they could know of the original game, which wouldn't surprise me given the success of that game years ago and the fact that it's a war/strategy game too). If you think we're being rude, think again. Players on BNet will be way less receptive to your map idea than most of us are in these forums. We're just telling you another project exists and, obviously, keeping the same name for your project might just not help. It might even depreciate the Hive Keeper mod, so in a way it's kind of disrespectful for their work.

That's what I was saying, and I don't think I'm being hypocritical here... If I was, I would have told you to keep working on your project.
