If you're making a Game Character, I would follow what Kanaru has said starting with the head.
Also, make your legs somewhat straight as well; it's easier to rig them.
Use alot of reference. ALOT of reference of every single little detail that you do. Even wrinkles if it come to that (Bump Mapping).
Say you've got the Models, how would you animate them? Are you gonna take a Zealot unit and replace it with the said model(s) so that the preset animation sticks?
