Add me too please, can help with all the media - banners & media (icons for Arcade, artwork-based design, etc) / posting on forums and sites / testing / feedback / etc.
Time to make LOTV custom map. I can help you with all the media, banners, logos, loading screens, maybe icons (well you already have tons of goood icons there from other mapmakers, but I can help with suggesting from design point of view and give my opinion), and other media stuff.
Well, these maps can be done in SC1BW style. I mean simple skirmishes against hard AI with some scripts, like special bases with specific units or special conditions, like limited resources or limitations with available units.
• instead green/yellow/red scheme you got blue/cyan/orange color scheme
• circle around selected units/buildings now match player's color
• red X'es in unbuildable blocks
• a bit darker minimap
• brighter minerals/neutral objects
Well, I'm not a mapmaker. So here you can find only ideas from me. But I can help with designing (banners, loading screens, map icons in Arcade, something more).
Quote:
Zagara- Zagara is your companion during the campaign, but there could be a mission/several missions about her and her brood right after the artifact turned Kerrigan into a human (WoL campaign)
Well, that can be interesting to look at. I mean to play some missions with events before HOTS and after dezergified Kerrigan. You also can recreate first BroodWar mission where all Zergs are fighting with eachother. So instead Kerrigan we will have Za'Gara that trying to reclaim controll of survived Zergs.
Quote:
Niadra- Playable in the mission of invading a protoss ship. Maybe this mission could be expanded or improved as a version of Tales of the Broodmothers, or a 'sequel' to that mission.
I think it's better to not touch that Broodmother, because we don't know what will happen in LotV. Better to use some imagination and use other Broodmothers,
OR create completely unique mission, where one of Terran Patrolling Battlecruisers will met that Protoss Ship, and Niadra will send Infestor to infest that Terran Cruiser. Need to create something that will not have impact on LOTV events.
Quote:
These maps could be called Tales of the Broodmothers. One or two missions for each broodmother, and tell the stories of their planet and their Swarm
yeah, thats the point of creating mini-campaign about Broodmothers. I think it can be a very nice small expansion to HOTS campaign. And as I said, these missions should be really hard to complete just because in each mission we will act far away from Kerrigan and her powerfull brood. So it means separately Broodmothers will be still weaker than Kerrigan itself. That can be main point why this mini-campaign should be harder.
What about creating some custom made missions about Broodmother attacks? it may be like a mini-campaign containing 5-6 missions in a row, like Subjection, where we will be able to play as different Broodmothers with different tactics and play styles. The main feature will be that you will have no Kerrigan at every mission. This small campaign should happen at same time as HOTS campaign goes.
Here are some ideas for unique missions and conditions:
• Leviathan Invasion - one of Broodmothers specializes on Leviathan growing. In this space mission you will have mostly air forces and drop-pods. Leviathans here can become as mobile production units.
• Enemy Inside - similar to Protoss mission, this time you can try something similar on Battlecruiser. Unlike original mission, there you can try something around stealth-mission. You will have only small group of Zerg units, probably special Zerg units, like Swarm Host, or special Viper or mutated Infestor. You can design it around infesting Battlecruiser with just ONE Infestor.
• Defend the Crysalis! - this mission may be a remake to Zerus mission, with some story and condition differences. First, our main enemy now are Terrans. Second - in Crysaliss you will have evolving Broodmother, that will evolve into more deadly version with more abilities, powerfullness and strength. So when Broodmother will evolve into more powerfull Queen, you can swarm your enemies with millions of zerg creatures. But before you will be weak and need to defend Broodmother against Terran forces.
• Swarm Dejavu - you start in the middle of the map and you fight against three enemies: Umoja's Army (specializes on bio units and BroodWar units), Tal'Darims (aka Dark Protoss with Hybrids) and Dominion Forces (specializes on high-tech upgraded units including Warhounds/Widow Mines/Hellbats). Why it's named as Dejavu? Because it may be a remake to latest BroodWar mission.
• Creeper Invasion (or Creep and Die! - reference to Creep or Die training map) - what about special mission, which will be about one failed Broodmother attack, that lost all her forces on heavily defended Dominion planet, so Abathur decided to help her a bit, but not much. Abathur evolved creep so it damages heavily all enemies near and on it. You have only Queens, one Nydus Network and creep without bases (they are destroyed by Nukes on that planet). In this mission you must defend your creep tumors and creep out entire enemy bases with Nyduses, Queens and creep. This mission may be a good multitask trainer for new players, because you will need to spread creep across big map and defend it sometimes against terran attacks and raids.
Some general ideas around all missions:
• make missions really brutall and hard so you can compensate easyness of HOTS campaign
• Try to make interesting bonus objectives. For example - destroy X building/base to stop air/siege/X-unit attacks from that base. Or add Xel'Naga artifacts so if you grab them, all of your units will be evolved into something special like bigger vision or +1 attack range (except melee units) or +2 melee attack or +20% faster attack. It may be DNA-fragments instead Xel'Naga artifacts. So decide what to do better.
• make missions so Terrans will have infinite reinforcements, but you - only limited group of units OR just 2-3 bases to complete mission. So it will be semi-unlimited at time. You can build your bases, make armies for a long time, but your resource bases will deplete at some time, so you must act.
• as you want - you can bring back to these missions old Hatcheries with injections or balance these missions around 5-larva hatcheries
• Because Broodmothers are more primitive than Kerrigan herself, Broodmothers will be allowed to use only standard armies, no special mutations from HOTS campaign. But you can design some missions around some special mutations. That can nicely showcase different style and uniqueness of each Broodmother. Try to use some BroodWar units such as Defiler, Lurker, Scourges WITH new SC2 units. Try to create unique gameplay of each Broodmother in each mission with different unit sets including SC1+BW and SC2+HOTS units.
Thats all. I hope some time in future you can create something interesting :) Also I can help with designing loading screens, banners for threads and map images.
Very soon, Heart of the Swarm will be released and will continue the story of StarCraft II: the conflict between the humanoid terrans, the ravenous zerg, and the psionic protoss. As these races struggle, the specter of alien gods threatens to sweep aside what fragile stability still exists in the galaxy. Sarah Kerrigan, the former zerg Queen of Blades, has seen her humanity restored by an ancient artifact, but she remains a threat to all she encounters. The memory of her time as the mutant leader of the swarm lingers — as does her yearning for revenge.
But what I want to do is to datamine, but this time not patch or beta, this time it will be entire expansion, with tons of new textures, music, icons, image backgrounds and other materials. This article will be something like summarized datamine, that will include some materials from previous datamines and some new content.
Warning! Story spoilers below!
Heart of the Swarm story begins 3 months after Wings of Liberty events
Here is compilation of all story and lore information around and before Heart of the Swarm expansion.
The sinister zerg leader no longer commands her legions of bloodthirsty aliens against the humans of the Koprulu sector, all thanks to the combined courage and tenacity of Jim Raynor, General Horace Warfield, and a mismatched team of Dominion soldiers and outlaw rebels.
Although the queen is no more, Sarah Kerrigan is very much alive. The woman who once controlled countless alien minds in a rampage across the stars has been spirited away by the man who dethroned her. Now Arcturus Mengsk’s Dominion armada is on her heels, roaring for blood. Jim Raynor will need to test his strength, his wit, and his loyalties against impossible odds to protect the woman he loves.
StarCraft II: Flashpoint bridges the events that take place in StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty and the upcoming StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm. Featuring never-before-seen glimpses into Jim Raynor’s and Sarah Kerrigan’s past, this novel opens a window into a world of passion, action, and adventure.
No single human being has been more inseparably tied to the twisted destinies of the terran, protoss, and zerg races than Sarah Kerrigan. She has risen from the ranks of soldier and rebel to become the unstoppable Queen of Blades, supreme ruler over a race of bloodthirsty aliens. But now she has fallen from her seat of power and been taken in by those who wish to separate the woman from the monster - a task which may be more difficult than it was to dethrone her. Take a look inside the mind of one of the greatest villains in gaming history and prepare yourself for StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm with this explosive new comic from Blizzard Entertainment, Kerrigan: Hope and Vengeance.

Current Unit Tester (that was done by Millenium) is ugly, there are no unit cost displaying, Swarm Hosts always spawn locusts (even when not burrowed too), everyone can see cloaked/burrowed units. It's hard to test many things.
Because I can't launch Galaxy Editor for HotS Beta, can someone create better Unit Tester?
P.S. I have invite, but I can't launch galaxy editor
I've remade (recolored or created from scratch) some icons for you and for XenoX. Some icons are from your stuff. Hope you will like it :)
Blind Cloud - strongly distorted and recolored original cloud icon
Viper's Consume (SoulFilcher uses orange, I think it should be more greeny)
Warhound's Haywire Missiles - this is just one of SoulFilcher's icons, that I think fits better to ability than original version
Mothership Stasis - using SoulFilcher's placeholder I did something with protossish effects on it :)
Original
What I did (first icon). Or use SoulFilcher's shield icon
Recolored icon for Widow Mine burrow
Locust Life Time Upgrade
Spent 30 minutes on creating this icon. Used official swarm host unit model and some lighting like at Armor upgrades. Here are 3 color variants - use what you like more :) But I think orange and probably green are best ones
