I for one support Blizzard. I dont want to see inappropriate crap maps for lulz ffs. Their rules are pretty standard, and atleast unlike other companies, they take an interest in the community and wont let the custom maps degrade into advertising maps/pornos/hate stuff.
Stop being whiny b1tches.
If this was in a map, it'd be banned you know. Inappropriate content.
Also nobody is making you play those maps, smart one. Not like they'd be popular with the popularity system.
By the way, WC3 turned out marvelously without any of this nonsense. Sure there are advertising maps/pornos/hate stuff but it really doesn't degrade the experience at all.
uhh my loading screen is a collage of scenes and in the corners are pictures of people lying on the ground covered in lots of blood (sceencaps from movies)
would that be considered excessive violence? i dont wanna be banned lol
Excessive violence, trademark infringement.
Banned faster than you can say "this new system sucks".
Wow. Hard to believe that anyone in Blizzard would even consider something this absurd. But they did back themselves into this corner by removing local hosting. Major custom content takes yet another fatal blow. This is like watching your dudes get hit over and over again when they're already dying in Earthbound or something.
I for one know that even my more serious and non-humorous projects would break at least half those rules given their subject matter (Gods, violence, ect). But I never planned to publish anything I ever made so it doesn't really effect me.
Pretty much this, except for people who do like to publish custom maps the environment is just getting progressively less friendly.
Sure.
Metastasis is kind of like Parasite in that it's a "who's the alien map". Players are assigned the role of either human, alien, mutant, or android. Humans must work together to root out and kill the alien and mutant before they can do the same. The alien and mutant can evolve to grow more powerful in their quest to destroy each other and the humans, changing form and ability. The android is pretty much a super-powered human who needs to stay alive long enough to become more powerful to combat the alien/mutant threat. The entire game takes place in a sector in space, so there are multiple space stations (each serving a different function) and a planet, and players can use explorer vessels to move between these. If you want the WC3 equivalent, look here: http://metastasis.thegoodsirs.com/
What I'd need a terrainer to do is lay out the basics of a space station, make pretty terrain, and add detailing and props so that the game doesn't look sparse.
This video should show you what I mean:
I'm not very good at terraining or filling in space, so I'm looking for someone to help fill in doodads, decals, and terrain.
I'm making a sequel to the WC3 map, Metastasis, so there will lots of work filling the inside of space stations and stuff. Access to google talk would be great, but not necessary. Thanks in advance.
That is ridiculous. SC2 already collects mouse data for various things. Just take CameraForceMouseRelative as an example... this makes it so that the camera motion is inherently linked to mouse motion. The EXACT same thing could be done, except instead of moving the camera upon mouse motion, the game could fire some trigger and update some mouse position values. Blizzard is just being really lame by not including this...
No I don't think you understood my point, the problem isn't that mouse position can't be collected, it's that input latency means the odds of the mouse cursor being in the place the variables say it is are extremely unlikely, so the cached information would not be very useful.
----
I don't think it would matter if it lagged. People can adjust to latency quite well, plus a short delay wouldn't hurt anyone that much.
We want that feature!
I played that version and it was hideous. Make a better one if you're so inclined, or make a different map in the genre. It really is a type of game with lots of possibilities. If you need help I have a friend who would probably love to help.
Wow, this region locking thing must really suck for you guys. Anyways, ask the author or alternately go ahead and upload.
I would like to take this space to note how much I hate the new system.
Here. Played the campaign though.
Definitely annoyed about the current state of the editor/map publishing, as I hate SC2 melee a lot and custom maps are the only things I really like.
I'm sure tons and tons of people could use your services, myself included. I'm working on a sequel to a wc3 map and could use some icons. PM me if you get the time.
I have an account over at WC3C, I think. Never really used it. Mostly used hiveworkshop, although most of what I needed for Metastasis came from the official site.
The 1/16 trigger execution interval to be changed to 1/100 at least. I mean, Warcraft 3 supported this just fine. And it's really a terrible ingame limit. Plus it adds an average of 31.2 MS delay to events, maximum of 62.5 MS. This could matter a lot.
Get Local Player. I understand they're worried legions of people who have no clue what they're doing will crash the game and it'll interfere with Blizzard's server model or whatever, but it's really incredibly useful sometimes.
Set Unit Data seems to appear in every category of GUI actions, even if you search for random stuff it appears. I don't think it's that universal of a function that it relates to every possible thing.
The UI/GUI dialog system is kind of confusing, what with the random differing coordinates and all. Fix!
We also need a better way of dynamically calling functions than wrapping them in a trigger and executing that trigger. I don't want every dynamic function to have to have to accept two booleans and return one, as well as being passed in the form of a string.
The 2^21 byte limit really, really needs to be fixed.
Banks should get lots more space. It's only slightly better than a savecode at the moment.
Either a way to Force UI Events, or a way to get the mouse position of all players at all times. Even if you have to use a native to enable this functionality first, it's way too useful to just leave out.
Edit: Another thing, the search function in the "view script" window seems to be broken.

No maps mentioning anything from the real world at all, as that would be a neutral, positive, or negative national connotation.

Nice job, man. Hopefully somebody will really take notice.
On a side note, I seriously doubt any game sites will take up the cause as lots are running full page SC2 ads.

I would be very, very interested to know this.
