When you create your account you start with 0 heroes, there are 10 free playable heroes each week. Heroes can be purchased with points you get after playing games. They can also be purchased with real money. The only thing you can't get in the game without real money is skins, which are just for aesthetics. So basically you can unlock everything in the game by just playing it
Thank you sir, this was the info I was curios about. I might give it a shot in the downtime of SC2.
The item system is definetly better in LoL because of the way the shop is setup, the gameplay is actually superior because Tanks can actually Tank unlike in HoN which is built around assassins and even tanks are assassins which makes them not tank... which also points out another point that HoN's main hero ideas are from Dota and are altered to make them more OP then they where in Dota and I play HoN and troll their forums, Im not alone in that thought. The champions in LoL are all unique to the last detail it is a completely different game.
Well, I would consider playing LoL or HoN. But, what I'm asking is do they have an item mall, where you spend real $$$ to buy in game items? Its a popular trend in free to play games and a marketing tool that I don't like.
After this last patch my editor has lagged horribly. I can barely do anything with it, placing terrain is a nightmare and touching the data editor is nearly as bad. Is my editor broken? Did Blizz put new defaults on the editor or something? Cliffs, also, nightmare. Thanks.
Any blog options here that i can post my updates to? if not, i opt for a site improvement! i would use a forum but it's not quite the same. anyway someone suggested that i should do a dev blog for my Final fantasy 13 game and i would kike to do it directly on the site if possible. I have a web server and can put wordpress on it but i would love to keep all my stuff here in the sc2mappster community!
I thought there was a create blog feature on here?
Not sure if it works, but click your name and goto user management and there it is. Near the bottom.
Symmetry is boring. I think this map looks really cool as it is.
Yeah,
A lot of maps adhere to the symmetry > life rule. I definitely dig the map. I think it looks a little cluttered, but that might just be from the screen shot.
Keep it up.
We'll have "interior" areas similar to those in Warcraft 3 roleplays, and there's no reason a terrainer can't shape them like the hull of a Starcraft-style ship. :) I agree though, that would be incredibly fun. I just don't have direct control over what the terrainers do, they basically have complete freedom since they're freelancers.
It's another great idea, but unfortunately I have no plans for a GUI at the moment. The Cortex Engine is very extendable though, so there's no reason one couldn't eventually be done. I'm focusing on stuff that was already done in WC3 though, before adding stuff that's new in SC2.
For the love of plx, get those interior hulls in there!
I'm unaware of the WC3 stuff, sadly. I didn't play it online quite as much. Throw in a good word for the hull interior terrain ;].
I'm not sure what all ideas you have planned, but I remember a great idea from a SC:BW RP. I haven't seen it replicated since and it was one of my favorite maps, however I can't recall the name of it now. Basically, you had your own hull for your ship, which a part of the map was "cut out" and had various outlines, i.e. battlecruiser, wraith, scout, and even zerg air units like the guardian, you could then make your own interior for your ship. You'd have your captain and the bridge and guards and whew.. It was awesome, of course back then we used arbiters for boarding parties and raids.
I know this feedback might not be what you wanted, but I'd love to see it implemented.
Dunno, maybe some units, some destroyed objects, sparks here and there. Some additional tileset as path or something.
Lol, thanks. Well, there are quite a few fires on the map actually. The units will be probes as the map is going to be a Cat/Mouse variant, so I haven't cluttered it with units. Unless you mean more doodads? I suppose a tileset would help spruce it up a bit, but I like the simplicity of a single tileset [nub excuse.]. Mainly, because I can't seem to blend other tiles together well and the minimap always looks so hideous afterward. Thanks for your feedback!
I figured I'd drop some pics in here, I'd love to see some more. The maps in this thread are amazing and humbling even!
I've yet to touch lighting, but I'd definitely like how to know how to create a night map. I'm working on a map currently, most likely a variant of Cat and Mouse. Something that bugs me with it so far is the "Jail" is not centered and that I might have gone overboard with the doodads and lack of labyrinthine-ness [though they are a lot of nice nooks and crannies that can be used to gtfo dodge].
Capturing good screens is definitely not my strong point.

I have a location set, however it doesn't correct the issue. Also, it just resets it to a blank location. Any ideas? Thanks.

Doesn't League have an item mall though? If so, I'd rather just go with HoN. The heroes for HoN are very well done.

@Sixen: Go
On the chance I might sound retarded, why the hell does mine say "3 minutes later (3 hours ago)" when I just posted in a thread?

That should help!

This is truth. Especially, the press any key crap unless you're doing a single player map it shouldn't be there.

A tractor-beam command would be nice, too.
