Thanks for the support. I created chat channel "DBS" and added the info to the load screen. Join channel "DBS" and we'll get some games going. I'll also try and get the map spotlight by Blizzard.
How about texturing the terrain? Or you imagine it like snowlands?
Ya, I stuck with the 'snow-barren' theme from the movie. The ice tile that I am using is from nil's ice texture set. But, I would happily club a few baby seals if that meant I could get my hands on Blizzard's new ice texture set when HOTS comes out.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in Star Wars the Empire had 2 types of mech walkers - the small one and the big 4 legged one that can carry troops inside (i think the small one was the AT-AT and the big one was the AT-ST). It would be great if your map also had at least two different mech walker units as it would fit with the whole "tribute to the empire strikes back" theme.
Btw the mech walkers look like the goliath unit from the campaign. Maybe the goliath would be a better model for the walker? (re-scaling of model may be required)
Hey caparosmith, Yep, your right. There are two types of mechs from the movie. I am using both the colossus and goliath models as my mech fill-ins. The four-legged "Dominion Walker" fills the role of a slow siege unit, while the 'Goliath' is more mobile and versatile type mech. I even have a 'snow-speeder' type of unit that fires a tow cable to slow down the mechs, which you see in the trailer i made.
Thanks for your interest guys! If you get a chance, feel free to play the map and tell me what you think.
I just notice there isn't one plan for tonight. But, if its alright with Keyeszx and others, I would like to fill-in and organize tonight's Map Night.
I love seeing all the creative map projects and providing feedback for them. It would be a shame if we didn't have one this week. So, same rules/ format as before, show up and we'll play your map. After finishing a map, we'll go ahead and spend a few mins. discussing what we like, didn't, and how might the map be better. Lets try and be civil and constructive. I'll go ahead and repost this on the official forums too.
So, if you have a map that you like feedback on, or just tired of playing whats on page 1, show up tonight!
@oldschool01: Go I just made a comment base on the pictures/video. I doubt I can manage to gather more players to play it with me, my SC2 social life is terrible. ;-)
I am looking for some feedback on my custom map: 'The Dominion Strikes Back'
Its currently in beta and you can play it on the North America Server.
Much like how Blizzard's 'Left2Die' is a nod to Valve's 'Left4dead', 'The Dominion Strikes Back' is a nod to Starwar's 'The Empire Strikes Back'. The map re-imagines if a 'Battle of Hoth'-like fight took place in the world of Starcraft 2.
[Story & Map Overview]
The Dominion have found the Rebel base on the ice planet Braxis.
-Fight for either side on the 3vs3 map.
-The Rebels (lobby Team 2) must defend and hold out for 45 mins. While, the Dominion must storm the rebel base within the same time-frame.
-Each side has their own unique play-style: If you like building fortifications and think you can build an impenetrable defense, play as the Rebels. If you like to kill indiscriminately or just plain-evil, play as the Dominion.
The map is still very new and I am always looking for ways to improve the map, if you guys find any bugs or have any suggest please feel free and post your thoughts.
The Rebel Outlaws do play differently in that they do need to base build throughout the map in order to delay the Dominion. However, there is no resource gathering - income is generated periodically (capturing/defending the automated refineries in the video is an example) . With limited funds, the Rebel team has to make tough calls in where do they defend, how much should they commit, do they invest in a mobile army (which can adapt quickly) or construct a string of fortresses (which is more reseliant).
@ion cannon
Whats really cool about the Ion Cannon is that its a shared Rebel structure. Meaning that you and your team control where it fires and what firing mode its in. Shared controlled for certain structure and abilities (But not your units) is a major theme in the map. For an example, the "call-down statue" and orbital strike ability seen in the video is accessible to any Dominion player who clicks on the Dominion orbital command. Another example of shared control are the Wall structures which the Rebels can build. The walls can be raised and lowered by any member of the Rebel team.
If your interested, you can see all this in action tomorrow, Friday at 7:00PM PST. I would really like your feedback and I still need more ppl to come and test out the map. Invite your friends too! Its only about 45 mins. And I think you'll really enjoy it.
oh thanks, I do too. As for the drop pod thing, every unit has their own unique way of being called in on the map. One of the design theme for the Dominion is that they have only recently secure a foothold and have to call-down their equipment/abilities. But, I'll definitely keep that in mind tho. Thanks for the feedback.
If you can make it to tomorrow's test at 7:00 PM PST, I love to hear more from you.
A preview video been posted. There's alot of cool stuff I left out to keep the video small (Include the vendetta Bomber!)
If anyone is interested, I still need help beta testing the map. Feel free to add my battle id: SonOfAZerg #819 ( or Post here/PM me). I am going to try and round up enough people this this Friday night @ 7:00PM -Pacific Standard Time, to test. Its only 45 mins. long and I feel its quite polish.
Thanks for your interest. I am going see if I can get enough ppl this Friday or Saturday. Would you guys have some free time Friday night? 1 playthrough is only about 45mins.
@zeldarules28: Go
I'm going to try and throw together a small clip soon. so, I'll hold off in spoiling it for you :) Hopefully, it will help round up a few more testers.
Thanks for your interest, Right now I believe its set to 40 real mins. The game length is definitely one of the things I would like feedback on for the test. Would you be interested in testing some time next week?
I am looking for 5 enthusiastic Starcraft 2 players to help beta test my map. The map is called
"The Dominion Strikes Back" and fictitiously takes place right where the campaign left off.
[Story Tagline]
A dire situation has force the Rebel Outlaws to make camp on the ice planet of Braxis, while Dominion forces -led by Nova, track them down.
[Gameplay]The Dominion Strikes Back is a (3vs3) - top vs bottom map. The Rebel Outlaws must setup a hasty defense and hold out for 40 mins., while the Dominion must crush the Rebels in the same allotted time. The two terran factions have radically different technological needs and have adapted various Zerg-Protoss technology.
The map is my small "lover-letter" to everything science-fiction and includes hopefully a well-crafted story, ingame-cinematics, and "Tongue and Cheek" sci-fi references and famous one-liners. With your much appreciated help, some polish gameplay too!
If any of this has perk your interest please make a post here or send me a PM and be sure to include what day of the week/time works best for you to test. Feel free to invite a friend too. Please note, I only have a North America Bnet account and therefore need testers who have access to the N.A servers.
