There are tangible maps just sitting around waiting for your purpose that you should try to get ahold of. Be great to see them go to some use. Just send the map makers in the thread a PM. If I see rrowland around (saw him on bnet a few days ago) i'll see if he has them as well.
Well, finally got around to trying these out. They are laughably bad.
Remember when blizzard canceled projects they knew wouldn't be up to their quality level? Well that company doesn't exist any more. Expect to see horrible games on the marketplace at some point in the future if this is any indication at all. I don't see any of this crap transitioning into anything worth playing. Their design team for SC2 has done nothing to impress me since the launch of this title which is insane considering the quality of assets they are supplied with from art to sound to voiceovers.
Probably a bit harsh but it's the truth, there are far better designers on these forums who should have their maps featured and with custom art rather than the rubbish they just put out a few days ago.
Another email, from Riot, resonated so well with what i just said in my prior post that i asked if i could share it with you guys. This was addressed to me but i felt it would make a great followup. I referred to us as the "little guys" in my prior email and thanked them for taking the time to talk with us openly:
There is no such thing as a little guy. You guys are what make us so great. I do tend to fight for the underdogs of the world…..I appreciate creativity and bold risk taking even at the cost of getting your hand slapped. How else do you learn eh? I just didn’t want the corporate giants to kill his spirit. I intended well and never thought it would go viral. I’m just one recruiter trying to help another person get a paying job in this market. What can I say, I have compassion for people. I do know that Activision historically has a bad rap for doing things that are just not good. I wish it weren’t so but at least they serve as a sharp contract to RiotGames!
Jeff, you just keep on plugging away. Put out good intentions out there and it will happen for you.
Creation25 this is all pretty awesome and I wanted to congratulate you on your hard work. Like you've pointed out WoS isn't too too impressive but your other RPG is pretty frickin' amazing and a very solid package. It's really good to see someone benefiting from pouring countless hours into the data editor for what feels like no gain as your hopes and dreams slowly wither away with your maps hourly play count.
Anyway, I just got an email myself from Riot.
About 3 weeks ago i was given an art test by them. Haven't heard yay or nay on that specifically yet, but when i saw all this go down i got back into contact with them, letting them know I also have SC2 modding experience since they seem to value it and i linked them a youtube video of my mod cosmic eclipse.
I'm now also under possible consideration for a game design position. This is a super far long shot, but i just thought it was super cool of Riot games to contact me so quickly and wanted to let you guys know creations in this editor can get you a job anywhere if you can show strong game design from a youtube video. Just because our dreams of a blizzard marketplace, or heck even just wanting to have your map actually played die, take a video, it has a merit of its own.
Best thing to do is to just play lots and lots and lots of games with a keen eye for what makes them fun. Don't underestimate UI, sounds, hotkeys, etc. Also try to understand the underlying framework of the game, the mathematical formula that determines how things work. It's one thing to know what's fun, it's another to know what makes what makes games fun. Once you understand this... well, no one really fully understands game design, it's a huge clusterfuck of systems and assets.
Keep playing, keep modding. It all melds together, reading a book on it wont do too much good.
It's a double edged sword how hard it is to get into this editor. Yes, it's frustrating finding decent tutorials is hard and sites like this can be a bit of a wasteland in some ways.
If you DO figure things out, put out a good mod, it will garner far more attention though, as there simply aren't that many out.
I don't see too much changing on this site though, seems a lot of the enthusiasm here has died down and things aren't exactly in a state of change. But this itself is subject to change, the editor is being updated all the time and a few patches down the road who knows, maybe things will look different in these parts.
everything you need is in the file linked in the thread.
I'm more or less over modding SC2, been burned too bad by mod teams and SC2 in general. I'll check out your progress though, if i'm impressed i'll jump back into the game and we can make some cool shyt :D
Nope, might clean her up once i'm done with concept art just so i can throw her in my portfolio, but seems like a waste of time since the mod seems to be dead.

There were some great maps made in a challenge for Wired for Blood before it fell apart, you can check them out here:

Hope he turns up soon, have a good bit of work invested in this project too :P, and he'd better have made some progress with the mod!
