I spent a while researching and testing rectangular searches. My recommendation is 'don't use them' unless there is an absolute reason that arcs and circles cannot be used.
Most of the usual issues with rectangles are related to the facing of the unit during the search.
- the unit faces -y, therefore your width & height of x10 & y10 (positives) are in relation to the units current facing.
- I suspect your problems are directly related to that.
Furthermore, the facing of non turnable units ie: siegetanks and colossus works very differently and generally are incompatible with rectangles without previous search effect used to established a 2nd reference point in situations where you want the unit to move in a specific direction relative to a map position.
Also, there is a persistent 'mirror' search oddity that occurs occasionally when using rectangles, as in the unit searches within the opposite direction of your rectangle. in this case: it would mirror search -10, -10
This is a long overdue post, but I wanted to give a very special thank Dr.SuperEvil.
Without his help, my project would never have been completed.
He has answered the overwhelming vast majority of my data questions. Over this last year, I have searched and read nearly this entire forum searching for answers; and always, I would run into his posts.
I started from zero knowledge. That was such a long time ago for me... I have now created 200+ custom units with full custom ability effect trees down to each validator.
Nowadays, I find nothing really difficult to create or do in data. I would certainly still be rummaging in the old wiki if it were not for him.
To Dr.SuperEvil, I saved a special spot for you on my loading screen within my map, desert strike azure
(in hindsight, I should have pm'd you first; my apologies. please pm if you would like it removed)
The map starts up and immediately sets the UI to fullscreen without any changes to UI. However, there are UI elements that are changed within the map UI module directly.
During fullscreen mode, there are a few camera view changes and game speed changes but there are no UI actions. Two seconds after the UI is set back to normal, I hade a terrain section and then I hide UI buttons.
Edit: i keep forgetting to add; map's name is desert strike azure
I have struggled with this missing UI for 2+ weeks. I cannot solve it. My research led me to the answer of "not messing with any UI elements during and a few seconds after setting UI to normal" -however, the problem persists. The UI dissappears randomly in games (pics below). Also, it occurs more often in high graphic settings.
its a missile, stretch out the y axis and slow the animation down to .2 would be somewhat similar. pair it with a shield restore beam at the same time. that's the closest i can think of.

Missing UI persists even in patch 3.12
I highly suspect this is related to the Nova Art Dependency. -has anyone verified this?
Removing this dependency will take alot of time and effort, hard to justify doing it for a test.
so please chime in if you have experienced this UI bug and if you are using/not using Nova dependency
thanks!

I am taking a break from making maps and I am most likely to leave mapster as well. -but for different reasons than queen.
-thanks for clarifying Dr.SuperEvil, because I was wondering how to remove all my posts if i wanted that-
as for forgetting you guys? no, there are some very nice people here that will not be forgotten.

There is an old movie in the 90's that has amazing, vivid imagery-
I found a game that reminds of it:

I do not believe blizzard will be quick to resolve this problem
is there an alternative solution to the missing UI? The problem is that I very much want to use fullscreen mode for the start of the game.
I was thinking of using a completely custom UI layout just to circumvent this blizzard bug. Is there a way to do this?
-or will the missing UI bug continue to bug the map even with a custom UI layout

I found some very nice artwork online, but I don't think I can use it without the artist's explicit consent. The artists have not replied to contact.
What if the artists work were based on Blizzard copyrighted material?
-does that matter? -does Blizzard own it, therefor we can use it?
Where have you gone or what have you guys done to find nice artwork for your projects?
Does anyone have any suggestions for acquiring nice artwork?

Thanks temhawk
[Edit] the new curse UI now allows us to 'thankyou' posts

Hi, MrFlamegoat,
It would be *very convenient if users could search for all projects and asset pages created by another user within the members search fields.
Currently, I just randomly do forum searches, maybe i'll get lucky.... usually not.

-out of curiosity, can you make 20,000?

Assets\Effects\Protoss\HybridEnergyMissile\HybridEnergyMissile.m3
its a missile, stretch out the y axis and slow the animation down to .2 would be somewhat similar. pair it with a shield restore beam at the same time. that's the closest i can think of.
also, you can replace that with:
Assets\Effects\Neutral\Aiur_VoidTendril_VoidZone_Missile\Aiur_VoidTendril_VoidZone_Missile.m3
neither of these are a perfect fit. but somewhat close
