Hey guys, so I was looking to make a custom layout that mimics the one to Warcraft III. I think, however I'll need some help in order to pull this off.
What I'm aiming for is something that looks completely like Warcraft three's. Both on the Top (with a space for the Day/Night cycle) and the bottom, with the portrait moved, Minimap with the buttons to the right of it, an item panel on the right (right next to the ability command card), everything.
It seems like a big thing and it's a little overwhelming so if I could get some help on where to start, how to accomplish parts of this, or even a little help in actually doing it. I'd be eternally grateful.
here are some pics just so people know exactly what I'm talking about:
I think the easiest way to do this is to get a map with bright purple terrain everywhere and chroma key out all of the purple. Also, in sc2, the portrait is on the other side of the ui and there's no inventory, is that ok?
If you get to talk to a great artist you can always make the UI from scratch with Dialogs and then have the Artist make some art for it, that could fit the new UI.
unlike wc3, sc2 supports different screen widths, so the UI you are designing needs to look correct in each screenwidth (screenwidth's only differ per resolution set(4x3, 16x9, 16x10, etc. 1024x786(4x3) uses the same as 1600x1200(4x3), but not as 1680x1050(16x10))
The Inventory is possible as in wc3, but you need to remember that if it is not visible you might still want to show something.instead. (unit without inventory selected) (tutorial link)
Also using the sc2 inventory will require you to add the inventory ability to the unit.
The rest of the changes should be possible I think, although some of it will be triggered with dialogs and not handled by SC2Layout changes. (e.g. day/night cycle)
@Wacclian321: SC2Layout files can handle custom textures, no need for dialogs for that reason. But yeah if he can create a skeleton UI he can probably get someone to do the art for it.
WC3 doesn't keep the textures in the database as far as i know.
However, i dont know much and i might be doing this the hard way.
Also, I don't know how to access the database.... -.-'
they do, you need an mpq viewer. It's still a little hard, cause in the wc3 data, they're pieces of files and textures, so it's like a puzzle. Well, I guess not that hard really, but annoying.

nah, it needs to have the exact same functionality as Warcraft 3

@jaxter184: Go
thanks man
sry, couldn't get rid of the inventory in the orc one - I'll get to that
Why do you not export UI textures from Wc3 directly?
