Doubt it, dont bump your threads after 12 minutes... Give it a day, or at least a couple of hours at the very least. Bump it within 12 minutes and the same people will end up seeing it and not responding, bump it a long time later and other people that might actually respond will see it.
This is what you want. It's tested, and it works. Items are actually just handled as units, including equipped items. If you need to look for an item across all of a unit's inventory, just handle it with a loop. If you can't figure it out, send me a PM.
They mustve added that after release then... actually, i think there was actually something in some patch about item locations. Anyway, nice to see it solved :)

Is there a way to locate a slot on a unit inventory and destroys the item that is in that slot via triggers?

Is there any specific reason you need a specific slot? Why not just check if the hero have the specified Item, and just remove it?
