This week we're going to have our long overdue "Doodad Lottery" as the WTE theme. What does that mean? Simple: you pick any random number between 2 and 1121. Then, you go here and find the doodad associated with your number. Your job will then be to create a terrain that either A) uses at least one instance of the doodad you got at at least size 200/200/200or B) uses your doodad at least fifteen (15) times. It'll be fun to see what kind of craziness surrounding doodads we'll get. If this gets popular, I might do a one-week extension for more people to join in.
I thought about that, but figured it wouldn't be much of an issue. The difference between single numbers is still often really large; 341 is 'New Folsom Sandbags' and 342 is 'Outhouse'. That instantly creates two completely different terrains.
Crap, I got 44, castanar monitor floor. Reroll.
Got 852. Electric conduit path. Crap. Reroll.
Got 694. Zerus Rock Cliff Tall. FFS. Reroll.
Got 236. Terran Butcher prop large. What is that. And now I have to do all 4 doodads I rolled using your rules of size/number. Crap. We'll see how this ends.
That looks great! I would put more into a POI if I were you, though; since I'm having trouble deciding if the POI is the tank on the right, or the tank/lights/marines on the left. looks fantastic nonetheless, though.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I do terrain stuff.

And in a Starcraft haiku,
...
That's all I can do!
So, I thought 'you know what, I haven't done one of these in a while, let's give it a shot'. However, what started out as a little WTE soon got me inspired and I'm sorely tempted to turn this into a full blown 256x256 map. Anyway, I'm not going to tell you guys what two doodads I got - all I can say is that this is one of the few WTE's where I haven't stopped because I was board, and neither because my barrel of ideas had ran out... There might have been a hint in there somewhere ;)
Anyway, the terrain is looking great as always. I quite like how you made the buildings. Nice to see unique ones made out of lots of little doodads. Gives them some nice character.
That said, those lights feel a bit out of place. Perhaps you could try doing something else with that area?
Sorry Neb, I should have stated in my original post that this map is meant to be played at night :) In game, they all provide nice shadows and silhouettes but cheers ^^
Weekly Terraining Exercise #130
Hello there people!
This week we're going to have our long overdue "Doodad Lottery" as the WTE theme. What does that mean? Simple: you pick any random number between 2 and 1121. Then, you go here and find the doodad associated with your number. Your job will then be to create a terrain that either A) uses at least one instance of the doodad you got at at least size 200/200/200 or B) uses your doodad at least fifteen (15) times. It'll be fun to see what kind of craziness surrounding doodads we'll get. If this gets popular, I might do a one-week extension for more people to join in.
Either way: good luck, and have fun!

Here's a random number generator to help out:

Yeah that list is to alphabetized for my taste.

Das a sexay map.
The one I use almost entirely, and yet when you choose between 2 options, 80% of the cases it chooses the second one, well gl, let's see what all got
Ah, I've been gone for a bit, and I seem to have missed this one. I'll be here for the next one though. Anyway...

You think you could upload some darker screenshots, then? I'd to see it how it how you intended for it to be seen.

As requested :)
I'll finish eventually...
