While we're all slowly waiting out the time until LotV hits and I can do more themed exercises, I've come up with a bit of a new genre for this week, and maybe for quiet weeks to come: "Free Will". The concept of these exercises is simple: you head on over to the WTE Information Thread, pick any theme we've done before, and make a terrain adhering to that theme. Others will then get to guess which theme you picked to recreate. It's simple, it's cheap, but it's efficient as a basic exercise that'll improve all our skills!
My cintiq and wacom tablet dosent recognize editor 3.0 or.......editor doset want to cooperate anymore with my cintiq 24 and wacom tablet uhhh i cant guess witch one??! Im thinking the editor 64 was not meant to work with wacom stuff. Im out of ideas and my will to continue with the editor is just not there to keep trying maybe sometime 2016 it will all go back to normal. :-(
I can't believe it broke that much things....It did not get out at the best moment for TAC ...or the RTC... or any mapping at all... So sad. Well wargirl, I'd be willing to use Teamviewer if you wish to explore the editor with the new stuff haha :D
I can't believe what is happening >.< We need more terrainer! We need to share the word more so new people come here. And....we need to terrain a bit ourself too. I know for some of us the editor fails, but meh... I guess this will get extended since no one created something...
Most of my time these days is spent in photoshop and after effects. I would have some terraining fun, but animation takes a long ass time :p
With the editor being all wonky, the fact that we are in that odd place where the new expansion has not come out yet, and most people are in school this time of the year, I for one am confident that the WTE will at least go strong till #250 or more.
Bah c'mon guys! Don't be so sad, we are still there after 4-5 years! It's sure that today, video games are made to be passed in few hours, so it's the truth to say that people get bored easily of a game. I'm sure that more people than we believe take a look here sometimes.
Don't forget that we get older and some people, like me, have children and families.
I'll try tomorrow, if I have time, to make some screens ;)
Oh please, pull that 250 to 300 !!! AT THE VERY LEAST :D I believe in this WTE huge series, I believe in all of us, and I believe in the futur of StarCraft. I will play this game for as long as I will be able to. StarCraft has been part of my life since very young until today and will stay that way for a long time still!
I agree that it might be a weird moment with LotV coming out soon and an editor half working for some of us. Buuuuut, nothing is over.......
The prophecy is uncertain...there is still hope. - My best friend Zeratul.
I think you terrain experts need to make a new terrain tutorial once LoTV comes out. Looks like most of them are 2010 WoL Beta tutorials. How are guys like me who are only good at triggers/data supposed to make pretty things? ;-;
This isn't a bad idea. I made one ages ago but it's a bit outdated. Something laying down the basics of data editing for terraining and how to work on an aesthetically pleasing terrain might not be a bad idea.
That! That is definitly a thing. Making a group tutorial where everyone pushed their ideas in and how they would make terrain. Like how to use the textures, how to change them, how to use lighting, region lighting, new lights, use doodads omni lights, scaling, tilting, pitching, tinting, creep, setting water, roads (you know you can scale roads and change the triangle facing to make the road more fluid), foliage, pathing, all the terrain tools and how the tool itself works with spots, fades, tool scale, how units placing works, how to find doodads for example using the All Doodad pictures i made ( http://www.screference.op74.net/ ) etc. There is ALOT of information to take into consideration. How pathing works, how to see the pathing too for those who wants to make melee maps and place doodads here and there, they want to know if they block something and be able to remove the footprint in case they want to get rid of it. How and what terrain object are. We could even do things like how to export map image if the people want to show a melee map on a website, how all the map info works...
And now the new vision blocker with the preview in-editor, the new texture set... and anything new data or terrain related.
There is a huge dump of information we could create to show the people how they can make terrain look much much better.
Edit: I'm already starting an in-depth tutorial of all the tools and possibilities. I don't know how i want to show the information, it will need pictures, it will need pages and stuff because it cannot be on a single page. Maybe an asset or something... would almost be more simple by making basic html pages.
Weekly Terraining Exercise #221
Hey hey hey folks!
While we're all slowly waiting out the time until LotV hits and I can do more themed exercises, I've come up with a bit of a new genre for this week, and maybe for quiet weeks to come: "Free Will". Others will then get to guess which theme you picked to recreate. It's simple, it's cheap, but it's efficient as a basic exercise that'll improve all our skills!
As always, good luck & have fun!
