I'm giving some of those awesome terrainers out there a chance to make some quick cash, I want a new fancy terrain to use for Marine Arena.
$50 Delivered through paypal to the terrain a few other people and myself like the most and that I can actually use.
Competition ends in 14 days from this post (11/25/12)
I would like to keep the map nearing the same exact size (a tiny bigger may be ok), but be creative.
join a private game and see what room is needed and the current layout for ideas what is required.
Things to consider:
- 4 Xelnaga Towers on each side (orig layout)
- 4 Bases diagonal (orig layout)
- Chokes are currently a little too tight.
- Middle area that has room for 4 shops, top bottom and both sides.
- Melee will get choked if the side cliffs for the xel naga's are to complicated.
Can we get some more parameters about what you require. Ie do two players have to sharea base, do you want the same layout with just a new detailed look or an entirely new layout, does it require a highground center, etc
If it is the same layout it might be good to just copy/paste the terrain ontop a blank map and post it.
Hey, Yeah 2 players have to share a base, it doesn't need to be terran themed.
Be creative, I would love to see some new layouts if possible, I was also looking for a free for all map, although 8 player free for all is very hard to achieve imo.
you can shape the map how ever u want, as long as I can fit all the things I require onto the map, without it being over sized.
I was going to post the orig map, but as I said, new layouts are welcome, and our current layout is not 100% equal for all 4 bases, so its not a good basis to set anything to.
@FullaChain, please just open up sc2 and see what is required building wise, screenshots really wouldn't show everything.
Also keep in mind the max range, this is more for cliff areas and merc compounds, depending on peoples lay outs.

heroes/elites 5.5 to 7.25 for the most part.
Umm, i'm open to a HOTS Terrain, although the main $50 will go to a WOL Terrain, if the HOTS terrain is that good I may pay out more moneys if its worth it :)
Do all of the shops have to be configured exactly like the old map. I am assuming that you are requiring 96x96 for data limitation reasons with all of your custom triggers etc. however is there anyway we could make a slightly bigger map. I am almost done with my first submission. I would like to use another idea however it will require more space.
Oh can the middle shops be blimps that patrol to different locations every few seconds. I know that you simply want a new terrain but I would think it would be cool to have a special shop with unique items that hobers around the map unit you capture iit. Or perhaps you capture the blimp shop by lowering its hp. It would be pretty cool to have a floating mobile shop that can be captured by teams. It could add a new unique element.
sorry i didnt post any pictures, But I just wanted to let everyone know what I concluded while creating that terrain, why its in the shape of triangles like that.
From a competitive Standpoint, Without using squares of the exact same size in each corner, and utilzing the corner to split the players bases, there was no other possible solution that wouldnt Kill the balance of the map where a player can go mercs or marines and both ways can win.
There is no other ways to lay out his map other then the one I provided :P, and even I think mine is less then the one he already has.
Thats why I made it in the shape of the Iron Cross, Because that Was the only way I felt it could be done and still retain the balance of the map. And even then I think I made the bases Mis Proportionate, Meaning that there wasnt enough room to actually have a mercenary compound that wasnt Infront of the Command center.
My suggestion to The creator of Marine Arena, is to pick a winner who redesigns your Ramp locations. and Recolors the map into someone seemingly new.
The blimp idea is an interesting idea and could bring something new into the map.
As long as one or two teams cannot competely shut it down and prevent the other players from using it. The map is all about strict symmetry. If players on one side of the map are able to take over the blimp shop close to their base it will remove some symmetry to the gameplay.
Oh, and it did have a bigger map associated with it for some time so there shouldn't be any problems increasing the size a bit. IIRC, the map was reduced to prevent players from sitting idle to mass up a larger army which would cause more lag to develop once they engaged.
@TaintedWisp - It's going to be hard to make a different map or layout, but I don't mind if someone near copies the current map and they can even make it a little bigger, I just really wanted to do this to see what people could come up with.
@Michaelknives - The map size that I originally said could be made a bit bigger, just not too much, nothing to do with triggers or regions, its more as snowman said, we had a map that was 114x114 at one stage and just the extra size and bigger chokes caused a considerable extra chunk of lag, but i'm still open to things that are bigger.

Instead of wasting time and producing half quality maps as fast as you possible can, it might be wise to actually slow down but put some actual work as you say. Despite your previous statement, your maps are not the only solution and you may want look first to what the other mappers are producing first before drawing conclusions that only your maps will work. Quality takes time and i'm sure if the op was fully interested in your work he would have hired you instead of making an open competition first.

I wish I had the HOTS editor :( I could have used the new rocks. Does it have to be terran themed or can it be any theme.

Can we get a screenie of what you created, if that's ok with Romexiom? Kind of curious.
This is what he made, looks pretty cool, but not really practical.
- Cliffs are too complicated to keep melee a little viable
- Cliffs are too close to the merc compound which may be because the bases are a little small.
- Triangles just seem like an odd shape to have for bases, awkward aswell.
