It's probably easier to place a large swath of a terrain type in the editor and photoshop a chunk of it to make it a tiling texture, compared to actually working with the game files which have everything split into lots of tiny fragments.
You're pretty much right. SC1 maps are really just a grid of 32x32 pieces or "tiles".
You'd be better of putting a big chunk of terrain in an editor such as... the one coming with starcraft or scmdraft screenshot it and make your texture tile in photoshop (which is nothing hard)
You'd have to make the normal maps and emissive maps, though AND this will only work for "textures" per se, cliffs area whole different system in SC2, they aren't really just textures but models, in SC1 they are just images really and a tileset file "masks" the subtile with "walkable" or "buildable" flags and that's why you cannot walk over cliffs.
I would really be interested in doing this, is it possible? Could someone try doing it? I no longer have SC1. Cant seem to find it.
i dont see why not. but. im not sure if they would tile correctly.
