Hey guys, i've been lurking the forums for ages, been getting a bit of advice here and there. As such, i've just finished my studies and finally had the time to get to work in the terrain area.
I have alot to add to it i feel, i just messed around with alot of random stuff.
critics welcome.

I know the map isn't complete, it's mainly a showcase ofc. I have alot of smoothing to do around the edges especially. My water technique is lacking. I'm very new to this tool :(
It's not a bad start. I particularly like the underwater area in the middle.
My first critique is that the whole thing is very flat. It needs hills and cliffs through the playable area. Even flat areas should have some sort of subtle slope, unless they're meant to to be artificially flattened places like parking lots or the like.
The second thing I'm compelled to mention is the overuse of the Foliage tool to fill in open spaces. It's good for filling in some detail, but it needs other doodads to support. It doesn't work well as a stand-alone grassy-field-generator. You need more trees, rocks, cliffs, what-have-you to break up the open spaces a bit more before generating foliage (Particularly the flat plain at the top/center of the map). Also, using a small brush to make a checkerboard out of your foliage generation areas can effectively vary the foliage density and make it look more interesting and natural.
Center water was nice. Actually never tried to do a waterfall so no comments about that. You should try to mix the textures better/more and use terrain smooth to mountains a little also try to noise terrain a bit. Overall pretty good from beginner.
@Telthalion I agree with the land being flat, i have alot of ideas for it still to make it feel more "alive" - The lack of doodads will be addressed ofc, i didn't really get to the top side of the map to add the things i wanted. I'm trying to refrain from making it like there's been alot of human activity on the landscape.
@Mozared The map is pretty large, and i'm not sure if people prefer showcase screenshots or just a few key points that i like. As i'm new to this tool i wouldn't expect any amazing lighting play or the works, but i will upload some soon.
@BloodClud Thanks, i'm pretty useless with the water feature and didn't get the idea i wanted for the central piece to work really. I have alot to work on with the mountains really, i want to add some form of temple - eque feature into it, but not sure how really.

Also, take some screenies - we don't all always have time to download and open your map.

Thanks for the comments so far.

You can always attach both, screenies and the map.
Great to be back and part of the community again!

Hehe thanks. I've upload a few dodgy screenshots. They're quite basic since i didn't know if people prefer up close and personal screenies.
