As promised, the team for this week's WTE will be "Megatroprotoss". We've had Protoss ruins, Protoss temples, Zerg Hives and Terran cities, but we've never had this - I want you to show me your incarnation of what you think a huge Protoss settlement would look like. Think Aiur before the Zerg invasion. Otherwise, no limits!
I'll extend the WTE if needed, though I have some HOTS stuff planned. It's stupid though, I had a plan for a pre-HOTS and post-HOTS WTE that I came up with more than a year ago and now I don't get to use it because I miscalculated the dates and did this one instead.
I promise I'll put in entries once HotS hits... and I finish the campaign. Can't wait to see what other assets they have in store for us, considering about 80% of them were unavailable in the beta (we couldn't even use half of the tilesets; there were even more in the data editor that had placeholder textures).

Imagine, flying pylon, giant temple, shiny bright sun on green trees and transparent water, different scaled building, rflipped building to make them fly, place here and there stuff flying, think of what would look protoss paths between buildings, lights... protoss city! With some imagination and time this can go very far! At some point, we could even create a map where we recreate Aiur as it was, shiny, beatiful, as the protoss remember their planet.
It would be cool. (pictures from Google - WoW) Though, just inspire yourself of these, don't remake old stuff ;) SC2 can do much better than what we see in WoW.
Saw that there were no pics of this, so I spent a quick hour making this protoss temple thing and the background. Not my best work but might as well contribute ;)
Hey just thought I'd post some reference pics for people as there are actually some pics of Protoss cities from SC1, most notably the background of the Protoss briefing screen:
One of the SC1 Shakuras loading screens also has some but they're very small and in the distance.
Edit: Just realised those might be mountains... I always thought those were spires.
I had a prototype protoss city started in the beta editor that looked remarkably similar to the old briefing screen. Alas, I can't access it anymore since they shut down the beta. The few screenshots I took while I was working on it are pretty terrible and don't really show off much of anything. (Also, outdated and incomplete).
The map was a concept for a possible campaign mission, so it has a lot of big open areas that allow base construction and maneuvering of armies, but aren't very interesting to look at in still shots.
Edit: And another screenshot I had floating around. Different map, same general idea.
Ooh very nice Telthalion, and glad to see we'll have the structures for more modern Protoss stuff in HotS :D Hopefully you'll be able to open your map again come retail :)

The taller structures are actually recolored Korhal Skyscrapers. Most of the default protoss doodads are designed to be parts of a ship, not a city.

Are they recolored or retextured or recolored textures?

I recolored the textures in photoshop. The originals were grey instead of gold.

Is there any posibility of those protoss doodad models being exported and then released somewhere for WoL compatability?

They're all official HotS models, which means Blizzard would jump down your throat for trying to make them WoL compatible.
