Hello everyone! I have been recently developing an idea for a SC2 Map which I think is unique and exciting. I lack experience in the editor to accomplish this goal by myself, but I believe with a team of map makers this idea could become a reality. The overall style and feeling of this map is influenced by Steampunk, which is a Victorian era based around innovative technology.
Overview:
Players start the game with a given amount of scrap metal (currency) to spend on constructing their very own war machine. The first phase is choosing a "body". Players will choose between all kinds of bodies such as gyroctopers, mechanical walkers, vehicles, and many other things that will set the stats for their machines. For instance gyrocopters are fast moving air units with low armor, fast attack speed, and low damage by default. Players then purchase parts and upgrades for their machine that can boost stats, decide how the machine behaves, and purchase abilities. As a players inventor gains experience they can increase their proficiencies in certain technology to further upgrade their machines (For example, a player purchases parts to upgrade their weapons system and upgrades them three times. To further upgrade their weapons they must increase their proficiencies in crafting weapons systems). After all players are done constructing their machine they enter the arena where they put their creations to the test. Depending on the preferences for the game their may be teams or it may be FFA. The Arena will have key choke points as well as a "pit crew" to repair, but it will cost scrap metal to repair machines. Players will not be able to purchase parts while in the arena, but may purchase things such as traps with their scrap metal. Players may construct their own defenses with scrap metal, even in FFA. When a players machine is destroyed they will be directed back to the "town" after a short timer. The "corpse" may be looted for extra scrap metal (The amount of scrap metal looted depends on how much scrap metal the player spent on their machine). The player will have to wait till the round is over to continue fighting in the arena, but may purchase parts and upgrades as well as spectate the arena.
This gameplay is strategic and tactical. Players won't just respawn after they are destroyed so they will have to be careful and play cautious. Players create their own classes to a degree (The "body" give the default stats and abilities, which can be upgraded). Defenses can be constructed to "claim" territory.
I will be working on Terrain/Textures/Models/Data. I've been researching a little about Steampunk to capture that environment and feeling.
Once I find a team then we can discuss more in depth about how the game will work and finally begin the project.
Please, if your interested don't by shy
I appreciate any feedback about this idea, because I want to fine tune the concept and actually make this something worth playing.
Great idea, but I think there should be some system regarding the customization. Maybe pre-build, or being able to store your machine in banks since some people will have to wait when someone else is constructing his machine.
Yes there is going to have to be some kind of system regarding customization. Storing them in banks might be a good idea. I'll play around with that once we get to that stage.
