In the Behavior - Add On Offset fields of the units themselves is one way unless you want to select where placement occurs. Alternatively you could do like the raven can use an effect - target ability with a create unit effect but it applies a buff to the host building that disables other actions until the unit is finished.
On a side note, have you tried the Stats - Range field of the Build ability?
