There is also some way to randomly pick an effect but i forget which model uses it. Think it was one of the veichles.... when I have more time ill look into it.

ModeratorsWith the dark templar the variation is model based what he wants is a random portrait for the same unit model.
Try this event (you need one for each protrait):
UnitBirth.(name of unit) Term Type: PassChance (100/No. portrait variations you wish to have) PortraitCustomize (name of portrait you wish to use)
There may be another term needed. Ill get back to you on that.
