LoL, I never played F.E.A.R (because I am a pussy cat :3) but after seeing two videos about it, it looks scary as .... . What is your reaction to this game?
Seriously, Fear 1 was a great game, I enjoyed it quite much. Fear 2 pretty much sucks, Fear 3 even more, except the Co-op mode is well made and fun to play.
F.E.A.R. - SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT OH GOD WHERE IS THE LIGHT SWITCH OH GOD IT'S GOING TO KILL ME
F.E.A.R. 2 - Oh, she just wants to hump me, guess that means she isn't so bad after all
F.E.A.R. 3 - Hi Mommy, how's it going?
Play the first, avoid the rest, except F.E.A.R. 3 for it's "fucking run" which is awesome with friends
it looks a little deranged. I saw the wiki just because I got a bit curious what this was. So basically this girl who is like a SC2 ghost with powers and stuff terrorizes the crap out of the place that wants to experiment on her. Her dad is actually the one that put her there and she ends up killing people and then she is put into a coma and killed. Her ghost or whatever helps her sons kill people and stuff. Is that about right? Or is she alive the whole time and just using her powers? I don't get it.
I didn't find it really scary so much as intense. I mean, you can kinda tell when something is going to happen because everything dies down (as a general rule whenever the combat stops, something is going to happen). But on the other hand, my friend was always freaked out and wouldn't play it at night (I'm pretty sure he's afraid of the dark). I like the sequels as well, but they weren't anywhere near as good as the first one. All in all though, it has to be one of the best acronyms for a game.
Exactly, what it was. Intense. The game took you and pulled you in. It was not really all that scary and frightening; it was very dense and intense.
Compare this to Fear 3, where you cannot go 2 steps without random achievements popping up all over the place :/ Not a chance to build up any intensity, you are constantly reminded, that you are still only playing a game.
As mentioned earlier, the co-op mode is worth playing, not for atmosphere or intensity, but it is well-made, the characters complement each other well, and Vettel adds some refreshing elements.
Fear 2 could not quite catch the atmosphere of 1 (stupid zombie thingies), but still had its moments (the school was great! this part could, in my opinion, rival the atmosphere of part 1)
I think that a lot of the feeling left because everything was pretty much explained. I mean the first time you see Alma when she's running around in the first levels it's like WTF is that? Then by the end of the game you've pretty much got it figured it out; there isn't a mystery anymore, so the story is revolving around a concept that isn't that interesting anymore, especially because you already beat the game a year ago and lost interest. I think if you played them, for the first time, right after the other you would enjoy it a lot more, but that's not how it's done. Or if it was designed for several games, then it would be written in such a way that every game brings something new (like Advent Rising was supposed to be, but because of low sales they didn't go with it. Or Breakdown, which I maintain is one of the most awesome games ever even though the story made no fucking sense the first time I played it).
Condemned was another game that was really good like that (well it got all weird at the end, but it was still pretty awesome). The second one was still cool, but not as good. The atmosphere was intense, especially at the start, you had no idea what was going on, and they had people dressing up as mannequins in a creepy department store and chasing you with pipes. Games with intensive atmospheres like this are a lot harder to develop than other ones, as you have to be extremely careful with how it plays out. With some of them, like FEAR, it's clear that they didn't INTEND on making a sequel, but with how popular it was they pretty much had to because that's how the industry seems to work.
I think the best games end with a sequel being a clear possibility but you don't feel that your missing out on anything if it doesn't happen. However, I don't like it when people mess around with alternate timelines and 3 versions of the same thing. It's like "well, which is the real one and what am I supposed to be a fan of?!?" I hate feeling like that. What I do like is games that have stories of different characters that intertwine in the same series with a different outlook on things. Say for example, your playing a game where the main character wants to destroy say, a war machine factory. He has a timeline of trying to destroy it. At the same time, there are other characters that try to stop him or want it done a different way but are not necessarily the bad guys vs the good guys. There really aren't any choices to be made, but each character brings a different perspective on what happens and why.
Dind't play the expansions (which I don't regret) and didn't play the sequels (which I regret even less), since everything beyond the original looked like shit.
FEAR 1 is awesome mostly because its realism, the great AI and the scary shit that jumps at you every minute, but in the end, it's not scary all the time. It's just "shoot" + "get scared", until ghosts and stuff pop from hell or whatever.
LOLOLOL I checked out the ending of F.E.A.R 2 and ... man was I shocked (How the hell can Becket Fight an ash man while been raped by the girl lol) by it. In my years of gaming, I have never seen a game with the protagonist been raped.
Question:
Why the hell does that girl keep haunting you in F.E.A.R 3, even though you are the son of that girl?!
Fear 1 was the first FPS I ever bought (well my dad did), having played many on consoles, I never actually had one for the PC before ... except playing Doom back in the mid 90s. I bought it cause I thought it would fuck with my head, so I purposely played it at night, with the lights off and got myself in the mood to be scared, and it was awesome. I was so immersed in the story, it totally fucked with my head and I loved it.
The problem though is the lack of different enemies - yes it was meant to the cloned soldiers, but that was it. The game itself was awesome, mixing hand to hand and weapon combat with time lapses. It was exactly my type of game - I played the expansion and it was pretty much the same. The ending in where the base blows up, I stood there literally proud, knowing that it was coming and there was no escape - that is how into the world I was.
I can't remember if I played Fear 2 or not, I have it but I don't remember installing it, due to low disk space at the time. I will have to check out Fear 3 ... but I should play Fear 2 first.
There was an awesome ending in some game, not sure if the original or an expansion, where you fly away in a chopper... and you believe the girl is gone but...
I don't want to ruin the ending, but those who played/saw it know what I'm talking about xDDD.
And yeah, the only boring thing was the lack of enemies and scenarios. All were the same, some more variety would have been nice. I mean, it has sort visions that move you to weird places. They should have used that to change scenarios and give us new enemies.
But was cool anyway. One of my top FPSs, together with Doom 3, Prey 1, Unreal 1, Return to Castle Wolfenstein...

@lolzguy: Go
like taking a turd
I like the part where an underage female ghost rapes you. . .
Thats F.E.A.R 2 :D
LOL a female girl rapes you ha ha ha
Imagine a male girl raping you...
Seriously, Fear 1 was a great game, I enjoyed it quite much. Fear 2 pretty much sucks, Fear 3 even more, except the Co-op mode is well made and fun to play.
Male Girl.... Errrrrrrr I don't understand.
But anyway I just watched the beginning 6 minutes and MAN is it scary and disgusting.
