Im working on a map right now with similar elements to Dota. I'm trying to come up with some unique hero ability ideas for the map and having trouble. I want each hero to have 3 abilities with 3 levels each, 1 ultimate ability, and a passive ability that they start with. So far, heres what I have
Zealot
1- mighty blow (a powerful 1 melee strike)
2- shock wave (stuns and damages enemies in a line in front of the hero)
3- inner focus (while active, rapidly drains energy and restores life)
ultimate- unyielding rage (200% increase in attack speed and lots of attack bonouses)
passive- [added thanks to sclol] every attack on one target increases attack speed b 5%
Assasian (Dark Temp)
1- cloak (cloaks the unit untill it attacks or the x amount of seconds pass)
2- flash (teleports to the target and deals damage)
3- poision blade (poisons the target).. MIGHT change to backstab if I can figure out how to program it
ultimate- ?????
passive- [added thanks to sclol] whenever the hero kills another hero, his ability cool downs reset.
High Temp
1- psi shcok (blasts targets in circle around caster)
2- psi blast (shoots a missle in the targeted direction. deals damage to whatever it hits)
3- Mark of Aiur (increases the target's energy/life regen)
ultimate- phantom (summons a phantom that looks like the caster)
passive- [added thanks to happy04] has a weakened hardened shield that blocks damage over 25(or maybe 15) up to once every 10 seconds.
Ghost [New]
1- snipe
2- Pressure Mine (thanks to Isthereanopenname)
3- ?????
ultimate- shoots a long range snipe that does large amounts of AoE damage
passive- ????
Hydralisk [New, thanks to zeban]
1- slowing poison (slows target)
2- infected bite (close range bite that instantly stacks 3 poison and does damage)
3- ?????
ult- destroys the poison buffs on all the units that are poisoned within a few feet, dealing 30x(number of poison stacks) damage
pas- every attack stacks poison
Marine [thanks to Isthereanopenname]
1- gernade
2- sprint
3- ???
ult- summon thor (just does 22mm cannons in front..i might change this)
pas- +damage to unarmored
Immortal [thanks to Isthereanopenname]
1- immortal puts extra power into its shields, taking half damage but moving much slower
2- immortal fires a explosive shot at target that aslo damages enemies near target
3- Sasis field.. (stuns the target for x seconds)
ult- caster takes only 1 damage per hit for 7 sec
pas- when immortal runs out of shields, sends out a shock wave stunning nearby enemies
SO what Im looking for are abilities to go in the spots I left blank here (with ????'s) and also new hereos and ideas. I appreciate ALL ideas! Thanks in advance!
Assa Ultimate
Killing Spree: REQ. Everytime an enemy hero dies the Assasin may use his Ultimate
Killing Spree slows all Enemy heroes by 30% (number may be tweaked) and gets 100% movementspeed bonus himself additionally the assasin gets 50% (numbers may be tweaked) attackspeed bonus.
Passiv: Everytime an Enemy Hero dies the cooldowns of the Assassin are resetted may only reset all cds once every 60/45/30seconds
High Temp. Passiv
Psi Overload: This effect can only happen once every 10.
Everytime the High templar uses a spell, he places a small psi stone on the ground ( or maybe something else) which deals XXX dmg to enemys surronding the stone per second (maybe some circle?)
Zealot passiv:
Everytime the Zealot strikes he gains 5% attackspeed when he switches target half of the attackspeed bonus is lost (may only stack 10 times)
Those are good ideas! Thanks you guys! Once the game is out Ill add those in. Just to clarify, the passives will NOT be able to have points put into them. They just start with your hero and dont change. Good ideas, though, For the high templar, I could give it a somewhat weakened hard shield. Like, everything over 25 damage is reduced to 25 damage and only once every 10 seconds. Only once every 10 seconds or something...If I can figure out how to program that. The zealot passive is good, and also the assasians. If he kills a hero, his cooldowns are reset. Although, Im not sure the assasian ultimate you mentioned would work, sclol. It doesnt seem to fit. I like the cleaveing idea better, but it still seems not so ultimate. Ill add those to the list. Keep the ideas coming! I added the ghost hero I started to the list, but feel free to suggest new hereos, not just ones I wrote down. Thanks again!

You remember the Lesale, the Venomancer from DotA?
Well... welcome back to the Starcraft world, where a Hydralisk poison-based hero would fit right in.
You could even spruce him up with actors, like set one on the tip of his jaw that is angled straight down towards the ground and uses the roach's ranged attack art in slow motion every couple seconds to look like venom is dripping out of his mouth.
Throw in a few heavy DoT-based skills for his main abilities, make his ultimate like... Lethal Enzyme Reaction - when activated deals damage to all targets that have been poisoned based on the damage they have taken from poison in the last 15 seconds.
So it would effectively double his abilities' damage.
As for a passive, I'm not entirely sure. You could do all sorts of things, like give the hydra a move while burrowed ability to make him more stealthy, allowing for an easier DoT combo attack. Or even just make his attack speed go up a little every level so he would stack poison faster.
I only played Dota one time but I didnt liek it so I tried Leage of Legends, which isnt amazing either, but its better. Reminds me of the twitch hero. HE uses abilities that hurt enemies near him that are poisoned. Anyway, good idea. I'll add a hydralisk hero similar to him.

Shadows - Summons X amount of Assassins for Y amount of Time.
Ghost
1 - Thermal Vision - (I dont know if it is possible) The Ghost can see invisible targets for X amount of Time
2 - Headshot - Deals X, a great amount, of damage to the target
3 - Mine - The Ghost plants a mine, any enemy that comes in X amount of range will take Y amount of damage
Ult - Explosive Shot - Shoots a Bullet that will explode on impact, dealing X amount of Damage to Enemies in Y radius
Hydralisk
1 - Numbing Poison - Increases Damage dealt to the Target By X for Y amount of Time
2 - Acid - Eats away at the targets health for a short amount of time. (Make it have a negative Health regeneration)
3 - (I don't have a name sorry) Poison - Two stacks of the poison will cause the target to explode dealing damage to the target and it's closest allis
(If I could make a suggestion, Instead of Slowing Poison you could do Crippling Poison. Sounds a little more creative even though I stole it off WoW >.>)
::Suggestion for Units::
Marine (You could probably think of a better name)
1 - Grenade - Trows a Grenade at the target, Exploding, dealing X amount of Damage to Y amount of Enemies
2 - Sprint - The Marine Sprints, Increasing speed by Y amount
3 - ???
Ultimate - Summons a Thor, The Thor will Bombard anything in front of the marine. (Make the Thor Unselectable and Uncommandable, and make it do 250mm Cannons. Also Make it Spawn Behind the marine, 4 offset or something)
Passive 1 - The Marine's Auto Attack Peirces through Shields (Maybe a little Over Powered IDK)
Passive 2 (If 1 Was Over Powered) - The Marine's Auto Attack Does 1-2x More damage per hit to Unarmored units, But does .9-.5x Less damage to Armored Units
Immortal
1 - The immortal Takes .9 - .5x Less damage at the Stake of Loosing movement Speed for X amount of Time
2 - The Immortal Takes 1.1 - 1.5x more damage but gains X amount of Movement Speed
3 - ???
Ultimate - The Immortal Fires a ,something >.>, At the target Enemy. The target Enemy and Closest Allis will take no damage but the ,something, will drain all shields from the units affected by it. All the drained shields will replenish the Immortal's shields by X amount.
Passive - When the Immortal's shields reach 0 The immortal will let out a shockwave, Dealing no damage but stunning enemies around the immortal.
I am still thinking, if you still need me ask.. I love inventing Abilities :)

Necromancer (Undead Marine)
1 - Summon ghoul - Simple Summons a another Undead marine, Probably Smaller and does less damage. Also Less Health
2 - Corrupt Shields - Puts a Negative regeneration on shields, Drains Them..
3 - Infected Wounds - Infects the Target, dealing damage over Time
Ult - Summons 3 or 4 Companions, Ghouls, that last a certain period of time. I would suggest Using the RileyStarcraft Shock wave tutorial and just replacing damage/stun effects with a Create unit effect.
Passive - When the Necromancer kills a unit A ghoul is summoned on the dead units body.
Engineer (SCV)
1 - Create Turret - Creates a Turret at the target Location (The raven ability basically)
2 - Deconstructer Missile - A missile, Hunter Seeker Missile, That deals splash damage and Extra Damage to Mechanical units
2 (if you don't like 2 or 3.. or 1) - Vortex Missile - Fires a missile , Hunter Seeker, That on impact summons a vortex, incapacitating units around the impact point
3 - Kamikaze Drone - Summons a Drone that will move at the targeted unit, Point Defense drone, When the Drone reaches the target unit, it will explode, Dealing damage to the Target and units around it.
Ult - Rocket Launcher - Fires a Rocket, Yamato Cannon Missile Looks best, at the target Dealing Great Damage and dealing Splash Damage to Units around the target
Passive - Auto Attacks Drain Manna, Or What ever is used to use abilities for the engineer

You need some more armored and mechanical units.. A lot of infantry..
Spewer.. or something idk.. Could just go with roach..
1 - Mass Spit.. You could Replace the name I couldn't think of one.. - Normal attack but bigger and deals damage to people around the target, AoE. 2 - Bite - (Close range) Bites the target, Slowing Movement Speed and deals damage over time.
3 - Toughen Up - Reduces Incoming Damage by 75% but reduces Damage Delt by 50%
Ultra - Venomous Rage - Increases Attack Speed by 50% and Auto Attacks will Inflect "Rotting Poison" And every 2 seconds the poison Ticks It will deal Great damage to the Target
Passive - Melee Damage taken Is reduced by 2 and Splash damage taken is Reduced by 10
Lich (Archon) (I personally Love the Concept of this guy.. He is about single target burn Down)
1 - Frost Bite - Deals damage every second for 5 seconds
2 - Frost Shock - Slams the target with frost, Dealing damage and increasing spell damage taken (Increases Frost Bite)
3 - Chilling - Increases Spell Damage taken (Frost Bite) and Slows Movement Speed for 5 seconds
Ultra - Perma Frost - Removes a Frost Bite and adds Perma Frost, Perma Frost lasts for 1 minute, Slowing movement speed and dealing damage every 10 seconds. Damage is increased by Frost Shock and Chilling
Passive - Melee Attacks against The Lich Apply Frost Bite To the attacker
Assassin
Ult - Shadows of the Past - Very Simple Concept but could turn into a cool looking ability.. It is basicly AoE but you could Make it So a big version of the Assassin comes, He doesn't attack, he is Unselectable and uncommandable, Then Make a big High Templar Death (The cool looking death effect) make it big and put it at Assassin's Position so When that Huge spirit thing goes off Kill the Big Assassin Dummy and trigger the AoE. Looks nice if you run out of ideas

Zergling
1 - Suicidal Speed - Sacrifce (x HP) increse attack speed and movment speed for a few seconds
2 - Hard Bite - Bite enemy dealing damage based on hp diffrence (Some nice formula here).
3 - ????
Ultimate - Transforms into banling for 15 seconds, while in this form it deals more damage and moves faster, if the "banling" dies while in this for it deals damage (AOE) 25% of its total health.
Passive - While the zergling is standing still it automatically burrows, when a new command is issued it unburrows and deal 5% of total health in damage to closes unit (some short range here)
Burrowing idea Is good but I dont think I can do that with heroes. The hero levels/data might get lost in the process, because burrowing is actually changing unit from zergling to zergling (burrowed). Also, the baneling thing mihght be OP cuz whenever your about to die you just flip it on. If I can figure out how to program these, tho, I will. Nice idea, thanks. .....Still Waiting on gamestop to hurry up and deliver sc2.. Im surprised anybody is still answering me, I figured youd all be on sc2. lol....Anyway, keep the ideas coming!

I am thinking of an idea where it is a spell caster and his purpose is to Increase AoE and Spell damage done to the target, he would have a DoT like the lich and an AoE then the thing that will increase AoE damage.. You think that would be a good idea? For example
Warlock (Or something just an example)
1 - Exploit weakness - Increases AoE and Spell damage done to the target by something like 30% or so for 1 minute
2 - Sins of the Forsaken - Deals something like 20 Damage every 2 seconds for 10 seconds
3 - Shadow Bomb - The target will explode in a Shadowy Mess after 10 seconds, dealing damage to itself and Allis around the target
Ult - Marked for Death - Marks the Target for death, Increasing AoE and Spell Damage done to the target by 200% and every 10 seconds for a minute the target will take 10 Spell damage (Increased by Other Spells)
Passive - Spell and AoE damage taken is reduced by 20%

Dark templar ult: causes attacks to cleave for some amount of time. Dark templar passive: evasion/dodge.
High templar: Passive: mana regen/hardened sheild stacked on top of regular plasma sheild. (very low sheild battery per rank)

For his 3rd ability do a ranged poison ability called venomous spine or something and have it deal damage over time like the rest of his stuff.

You need some more armored and mechanical units.. A lot of infantry..

You could Replace the name I couldn't think of one.. - Normal attack but bigger and deals damage to people around the target, AoE. 2 - Bite - (Close range) Bites the target, Slowing Movement Speed and deals damage over time. 3 - Toughen Up - Reduces Incoming Damage by 75% but reduces Damage Delt by 50% Ultra - Venomous Rage - Increases Attack Speed by 50% and Auto Attacks will Inflect "Rotting Poison" And every 2 seconds the poison Ticks It will deal Great damage to the Target Passive - Melee Damage taken Is reduced by 2 and Splash damage taken is Reduced by 10
Lich (Archon) (I personally Love the Concept of this guy.. He is about single target burn Down) 1 - Frost Bite - Deals damage every second for 5 seconds 2 - Frost Shock - Slams the target with frost, Dealing damage and increasing spell damage taken (Increases Frost Bite) 3 - Chilling - Increases Spell Damage taken (Frost Bite) and Slows Movement Speed for 5 seconds Ultra - Perma Frost - Removes a Frost Bite and adds Perma Frost, Perma Frost lasts for 1 minute, Slowing movement speed and dealing damage every 10 seconds. Damage is increased by Frost Shock and Chilling Passive - Melee Attacks against The Lich Apply Frost Bite To the attacker
Assassin Ult - Shadows of the Past - Very Simple Concept but could turn into a cool looking ability.. It is basicly AoE but you could Make it So a big version of the Assassin comes, He doesn't attack, he is Unselectable and uncommandable, Then Make a big High Templar Death (The cool looking death effect) make it big and put it at Assassin's Position so When that Huge spirit thing goes off Kill the Big Assassin Dummy and trigger the AoE. Looks nice if you run out of ideas

Zergling 1 - Suicidal Speed - Sacrifce (x HP) increse attack speed and movment speed for a few seconds
2 - Hard Bite - Bite enemy dealing damage based on hp diffrence (Some nice formula here).
3 - ????
Ultimate - Transforms into banling for 15 seconds, while in this form it deals more damage and moves faster, if the "banling" dies while in this for it deals damage (AOE) 25% of its total health.
Passive - While the zergling is standing still it automatically burrows, when a new command is issued it unburrows and deal 5% of total health in damage to closes unit (some short range here)
Burrowing idea Is good but I dont think I can do that with heroes. The hero levels/data might get lost in the process, because burrowing is actually changing unit from zergling to zergling (burrowed). Also, the baneling thing mihght be OP cuz whenever your about to die you just flip it on. If I can figure out how to program these, tho, I will. I am thinking of an idea where it is a spell caster and his purpose is to Increase AoE and Spell damage done to the target, he would have a DoT like the lich and an AoE then the thing that will increase AoE damage.. You think that would be a good idea? For example
Warlock (Or something just an example)
1 - Exploit weakness - Increases AoE and Spell damage done to the target by something like 30% or so for 1 minute
2 - Sins of the Forsaken - Deals something like 20 Damage every 2 seconds for 10 seconds
3 - Shadow Bomb - The target will explode in a Shadowy Mess after 10 seconds, dealing damage to itself and Allis around the target
Ult - Marked for Death - Marks the Target for death, Increasing AoE and Spell Damage done to the target by 200% and every 10 seconds for a minute the target will take 10 Spell damage (Increased by Other Spells)
Passive - Spell and AoE damage taken is reduced by 20%

....but omg you cant use campaign units in the map or it dies..wooow. I hope blizzard fixes that. Oh well. I am about to start working on the ghost, any ideas for his 3rd ability and passive?
