Yea this is giving me trouble too... One solution I've been toying with is having space-textured orbs around units to which the camera is attached. You would lose the pretty background planet however. In wc3 you could disable shadows on the terrain using triggers, but I haven't found a similar function for sc2...
Unfortunately that won't work. My map involves some Z height madness with an unorthodox camera angle, so it will still be visible no matter the map size.
Hey guys, that's just an idea but I think to know the cause of your problem.
The game camera has a property called "Distance Far Clip" that's used to reduce the rendered area of the game when the game camera is placed orizzontally. Without this property your FPS would be really slowed.
Try to use a trigger to increase it's amount, I'm sure this will work ;)
That's not it. If you look at the picture, the black area is right next to the horizontal edge of the map, way closer than the far clip. What's more, in the far plane, the background even comes back after a certain point.
At this point I think I will just have to disable the skybox. The black background will be much less interesting, but I'm out of ideas. For what I want to do, rotating the hydralisk so that it lies flat on the ground would also work, but that also doesn't appear possible. It's sad to me that the editor can do so much, but some simple things are out of reach :(.
Sorry for the necro, but seeing as not a single one of the threads mentioning this problem have any solution, here's the best I could find:
Through Triggers:
-In Actions - Show/Hide Environment: choose "hide", and select "terrain"
Through Data:
-Go to Terrain Type in Data: find your terrain, scroll down to "Fog of War Plane", choose "disabled"
Downside with both of these methods is that you won't have a fog of war anymore. Visibility is still restricted by your sight radius and whatnot, you just won't have a visual indicator to tell you what that radius is. Units will just suddenly appear in front of you...

Is there a way to remove the black area that exists at the edge of the map?
Obviously this is very distracting for the effect I want.

Bump. I don't want this alone to sink my map idea.

Increase the map area and then have the camera boundary block you from scrolling too far.

I'd like to know this too, it fucks up my cinematics pretty much!

Sorry for the necro, but was this question ever answered in any other thread? I really hate the black strip too. ><
Up.
Any solution ?
